Every relevant team needs a break from playing in the Rose Bowl (Pasadena, California) and the Fiesta Bowl (Glendale, Arizona) for 2 National Championships in the past five years.

It is very tiring winning SEC Championships and playing for the National Title 2 times in the past 5 years.

Remind me of what your school has done in that same time period.

Or..the last 10 years...
or the last 20 years...
30 years...
40...
50...
60?

Largely forgotten is the fact that, pre-2000, Tennessee had solid claim as being the 2nd best program historically in the SEC.

LSU had a dark period as well from 88-99, much like Tennessee has not been a national player the past 11 seasons. We are just seeing their re-emergence.

I see Tennessee as a has-been. That is all I know. I know they were "once" great, but maybe it is time to move on. My grandfather thought alot about Fulmer however. I don't really remember him as a coach.w

I heard a lot of the similar omments about Alabama from 1997 until midway through the 2008 season.

Once Tennessee gets the right coach, they will be a power again. Frick them, but they will. They have the name, prestige, facilities and resources to accomplish it. All they need is the right coach....and because of the factors listed above, they will eventually be able to attract the coach that can restore the program.

I hope not and I wish their program an eternity of misery, but they will cycle up again. All of the traditional powers go through cycles.

Not trolling. And most certainly not stupid.

Rest assured Alabama fan.

Just a quick question though to assess the overall health of your team's University...

Did you graduate from the University of Alabama?

Yes, or no?

Thank you for your time either way.

Easy question.

I don't see why they are such a big deal.

Same thing someone in your age group would have said about Alabama in 2006. Or USC in 2000. Or Michigan in 2014. It's a blueblood program that packs out a 100k stadium every game. They will be back.

Stupid question, really doesn't deserve an answer, and certainly not a long thread.

Honest question. History can only take you so far.

They provide an important land bridge to the only state that provides consistent SEC basketball prestige. Cut off Kentucky from the rest of the conference, and the SEC is an Autumn-only league 9 years out of 10.

Yea this is retarded. I'm 30 and when I was a kid, TN was absolutely dominating the SEC.

Beat Alabama 7 times in a row from 95-01

Records starting in 1989:
11-1
9-2
9-3
9-3
10-2
8-4
11-1
10-2
11-1
10-2
11-2
13-0
9-3
8-4
11-2
then we started to go down

We all love our own teams and despise our rivals but I look at history objectively. We have dominated at times and been pure garbage at times (like the last decade)

You really overreached on your age range because anyone who grew up as a kid in the mid 90's remembers TN football. That's a god damn fact.

And you see Georgia as what, exactly?

I never claimed Georgia is a great power. You are the one making unfounded claims about other teams.

Mine was an honest question. If you don't give credit to Tennessee for their history, how do you see your own team? I wasn't belittling Auburn. I was just curious about your opinion of Auburn compared to Tennessee.

Now, using the same metrics? I see Tennessee as the second best program in the SEC all time...behind Alabama. I see Georgia behind them somewhere. Maybe third, but I could understand why others might rank LSU ahead.

You do know he is not at Georgia, right? If not, let me tell you. He is at Miami "these days".

Well. There was that National Championship they had in 1998.

I'm not sure anyone claims they are "such a big deal".

They help bring some modest name recognition to the national title winning teams' schedules.

Malzahn, maybe? He will probably be looking for a job at the end of this year.

Still? Yes, we all have, and continue to do so until this very day.

When do we ever stop? Nothing like a good heifer in the morning.

Your mom would know.

People from Alabama majoring in "Undergraduate and Law School" would know this about Auburn however, so why do you ask?

That is not entirely true. Overall athletics in the SEC is pretty solid. Golf, Gymnastics, Baseball, Swimming, etc. is pretty solid in this conference. It just depends on what you support. I have no desire for Basketball personally, but I am fortunate to have other quality sports to watch during that time period, thankfully.
