Why is Auburn so inconsistent?

Consecutive 10 win seasons by SEC teams
Alabama - 17
Tennessee - 9
Georgia - 8
Florida - 7
LSU - 5
Texas A&M - 4
Arkansas - 3
Missouri - 2
South Carolina - 2
Ole Miss - 1
Auburn - 1
Once in the history of Auburn football have they accomplished back to back 10+ win seasons. Add to that this was very narrowly almost the second time in a row (and in the last 5 years I might add) that they have visited the championship game and then missed a bowl game 2 years later. They beat that stat by beating Idaho last week.
So I have to ask, what is the problem in Auburn that just doesn't allow period of success longer than 4 months?

They only pony up for the bagman every 3-4 years. Gotta keep a low profile since the days of "keep it down home cuz". Also, according to mister tee on another thread, the alumni invest heavily in the "dirt and landscape" around their stadium - only so much money to go around I guess.

To troll other fanbases into thinking we suck so when we win they get mad. Happens every couple years or so. Pretty simple successful strategy.

They take big risks on recruits--especially the JUCOs, low percentage home run swings. Odds are they will strike out often, but they'll knock one or two out of the park.
