Why I am Pulling for Alabama, and Why You Should Too

I do not like Alabama or their fans - at least the obnoxious ones that beat their chests and rub the nose of others in the fact that a bunch of guys that they don't know won a football game. That is well established here. But, that aside, I have decided that I will pull for Alabama against Notre Dame. Here's why:

1. Alabama is in the SEC and it keeps the streak going. That is good for all of us.
2. Alabama is no better than Georgia, Florida, Texas A&M, or LSU. Not sure about USCe, but I'll throw them in too. Actually, a strong case can be made that LSU was better, A&M was obviously better, and even though Alabama was better than Georgia, Georgia came within 5 yards of beating Alabama. LSU came within 6 yards of beating them. Alabama is just not that scary anymore, at least to the top half of the SEC. Them winning, while firmly cementing this run as one of the greatest of all time, does not mean that they are light years ahead of the rest of us. If they beat the other good SEC teams by 30 points, I might feel differently. But, the games were competitive, therefore, I can give them credit for winning 2 of 3 and hope they win the whole thing.
3. When the playoffs come, I want the streak in tact. We need at least 2, maybe 3 teams in the playoffs each year if we can swing it. This will infuriate the rest of the teams/conferences and they will push for an 8 team playoff, which we will also dominate. If that happens, the 3rd or even 5th place SEC team could win the whole thing. No other conference can say that.
4. We all hate Notre Dame. I mean, c'mon.

Alabama winning this thing is good for all of us, as much as I hate to say it. With the playoffs coming, we need to keep this going so in 2022, a 10-2 LSU or Arkansas or Georgia or South Carolina who finished 4th or 5th in the SEC and would be headed to the Cotton Bowl or Chick-Fil-A Bowl under the old system could instead win the National Championship.

That is where we are headed a decade from now if the SEC keeps taking care of business. If Alabama were blowing teams out, I would say it was all them. But, the difference between Bama and the other top 5 teams in the SEC is basically a first down, a completed pass, a missed field goal, or an interception. The teams are that close.

Pull for Alabama and enjoy beating Notre Dame.

I am right. Admit it.

I didn't get past the first two sentences. You can try to rationalize it all you want, but in no way is Bama winning good for LSU.

I'm pulling for ND. Not that I'm scared of Bama or butthurt, I just want some parity in the sport. 3 out of 4 is no good for the sport unless it's your team winning.

It's all true whether you like it or not.

LSU is better than Alabama.
A&M is better than Alabama.
Alabama is better than Georgia but came within 5 yards of losing.

None of that is a slam against Bama. It just means that Alabama winning is not that big of a deal. The whole country saw those games and knows the deal.

Read it or not. It is all true and it is why Alabama winning does not mean what it used to - at least in regard to the rest of the SEC.

For the rest of the nation, it is devastating, though.

Geaux Bama.

Or anyone else in the SEC.

Let's face it - Alabama with this NC will cement this run as one of the greatest in SEC history, and it looks to have no sign of stopping. They've lost 1st round draft picks on offense and won an NC (2011) and lost 1st round draft picks on defense and (most likely) won an NC (2012).

They have a coach that still has fire and passion and is relatively young. Saban could keep this up for at least five more years and is cherry picking his recruits from all over the country.

There is no reason to continue rooting for the SEC. We've won six straight. All of the SEC teams that matter have a BCS NC except Georgia who blew their chance yesterday. We're going to write down another SEC Heisman winner, and most of the NFL draft is going to consist of SEC players.

Alabama losing brings more balance to the conference. You say LSU was almost better than Alabama, but LSU still lost. Texas A&M won, but they lose quite a few pivotal players on their team. Do you expect Texas A&M to reload and beat Alabama again or Alabama to reload and get revenge?

Tennessee is still a few years away. Auburn may have a full four years before it's truly competitive again. Alabama does not play Georgia nor Florida next year.

History says that Alabama will be favored to win the SEC again next year as they return a lot on defense and a lot on offense.

Go Notre Dame.
