Why has John Chavis never tried Head Coaching?

He has had much success as an assistant but never made the jump. Is there a particular reason?

He's had many opportunities, he's not interested.

He doesn't want any more responsibilities beyond coaching linebackers, yelling at his players, creating schemes, and barbecuing.

I used to wonder this, now I just think he is a smart man that realizes the fall from the top is a lot harder.

He can't recruit. Head coaches need to be able to do that.

Alleva begged him to take Les Miles's job, but Chavis said it was better to be the DC of a good team in Texas with an offense.

1MM per year for as long as he wants, or 2MM for a few years and probably fail. Not to mention less headache. Don't blame him.
