Why don't we ever hear Mark Richt's name in coaching search rumors?

I was checking out the Dawg Rant and saw that 680 is saying Richt is now a candidate for the Texas job ( DawgRant)

So I guess I have a couple questions:

1. Would UGA fans be happy if Richt took the UT (or any other) job? Small chance it happens but I think it'd be a good move for both parties. Richt gets a fresh start which might be enough to get him over the top and finally get that MNC he's been so close to over the years while UGA gets a chance to get their own fresh start and bring in a new head coach to take over all that talent they have up there. UGA wouldn't have a problem attracting another top tier coach.

2. Why don't we ever hear CMR's name come up during big coaching searches? He's been a great coach at UGA, you'd think he would attract some attention during these big coaching searches.

eta: I guess the title should be why don't we USUALLY hear his name come up in coaching searches considering UT is looking at him right now

Because he hasn't lost control of the coaching search rumors yet.

He actually has but he also is super content to stay.

Which sucks.

A lot of our fans said the same thing about Fulmer. Be careful what you wish for.

Because it'd be futile. He has said thousands of times and screamed it from the rafters he's not leaving UGA unless he retires or is fired. texas could offer him $10M a year and he wouldn't go.

For the same reason we don't hear Will Muschamps.

I'd like and tend to think we won't botch the follow up hires as much

Hey, everyone has their number. I think Richt would leave if offered that cash personally...

YOU CAN DO IT, TEXAS!

There was some heavy smoke around Richt for the A&M job before we hired Sumlin but he signed an extension. How real it was depends on who you talk to.

Texas could do worse than hiring Richt but I don't think he will be their choice.

I remember some Ags saying they offered $4M+

I'm sad he didn't go

I would think Texas had its fill of underperforming coaches.

Maybe smoke from your end. Richt entertained some offers early on during his tenure, but in the last 5 or so years any "smoke" has just been talk. Richt won't take any other job in America, regardless of what he's offered.

Unfortunately the only real smoke was from 2 "insiders" at aTm Scout site & a lil' from TexasAgs... The supposed Richt sightings in CS were hilarious... Oh Well...

I love how UGA fans are so quick to throw him under the bus with no mention of how much UGA handicaps itself in so many ways relative to the SEC and other large programs around the south.
