Why don't they wait till the end of the season to award the Heisman?

There's no reason to award it early and vote before seeing what is frequently the biggest test of the year for the candidates. Makes no sense.
I know, the Heisman doesn't matter, but still. If Clemson can beat Bama, it's hard to say that Jackson deserves the award over Watson. Jackson just collapsed down the stretch after racking up big numbers early.

I agree, it would actually make a lot more sense to do it that way.

I disagree. Would make it even more tempting to just give it to the best player on the championship team

Possibly, but those games are all part of the season.
Imagine if LF7 had won the Heisman, yet sat out the bowl game, meanwhile DW4 played in 4 more games racking ip big numbers?

I thought of that, it's a fair argument. But I don't think that's enough of a reason to award it before the season is over, when it is supposed to be about the whole season. Now that we have a playoff, and since Heisman voters often send their ballots in early, you have players with as many as THREE games left when voters are selecting.

Why don't we just eliminate the Heisman? Today's generation doesn't give a shite....well, hell, today's generation doesn't give a shite about anything......

How about giving an award to the BEST player in the country based on performance instead of popularity or amount of campaigning by a university to voters who don't get to see every player play?
How about considering a player who played both ways (Gordy Lockbaum who played RB and DB at Holy Cross and was great at both) at a small school that doesn't get the notariety that others do.
