Actually, the Ags have a club team (not the same I know) that's pretty darn good.
In all honesty, most good club teams are (were?) usually on par with (or better than) college teams. At least, that's the way it used to be when my daughter was competing.
But that was before the rules were changed to discourage the "power pixies" from taking over the sport (you can thank or blame the Karolyis for that phenomenon). Back then, club teams and university teams were on different planes, if for no other reason than differences in the bodies of the competitors.
USAG/USOC competitions were geared for little, pre-pubescent bundles of muscle that spent 30+ hours in the gym. University teams had older girls who were, well, a bit different physically. Also, they usually couldn't put in the same amount of time as the younger club girls could (especially if the parents bent over backwards to orient the girls lives around gymnastics).
That meant different routines and different skills for each group were a necessity, given the difference in physique between your average pre-teen elite-level club athlete vs. the older athletes on a University team.
Near the end of my daughter's time with gymnastics, the competition pipeline was this: started with rec classes, then you moved to a pep/demo team. From there, you went to a competition team. And finally, a few girls moved to the senior/elite team. Once that course was run (usually by the time the girl was 15 or so), most girls burned out and either quit, went to dance, or taught gym. And after a few years they would join a University team when they finally graduated from HS.
It was a rough life for little girls. Now, it's a LOT better because of the minimum age to qualify for national eligibility under USOC rules. That means there's not as much divergence between club and university teams because elite-level club girls are now much older than the power pixies that used to form the core of elite club teams.
That's just what I remember, anyway, and my girl's been out of gym for over 10 years now.

Why doesn't Aggy have a gymnastics team?
They have 2 teams
Women
Men
Both are club sports but pretty good and while about half the SEC has a women's team I think TAMU is the only one with a men's team as well. Not saying this appears gay or anything, after all the B1G has several Mens gymnastics teams.

They don't need one. The rest of the SEC recruits Texas heavily.

Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, and Florida all have teams and they don't have near as many resources as A&M has.
Uh. This is false.

College gymnastics is about to blow up IMO
It already has. It already has more tv exposure than any Olympic sport in college.
SEC leads the nation in attendance. Every school breaks attendance records every year.
Alabama gets about 12-15,000 a meet. UGA, LSU and UF get about 6-10,000.

I bet it's the biggest female sport at UA (softball is probably close because of their success not too long ago) and probably the 3rd overall sport behind football and men's hoops.

Because Teatless Romanian Midget Flipping is NOT a fricking sport.

Aggie men refuse to compete in anything but the pommel horse

I posted something here regarding this very subject some 18 months ago. Every NCAA women's gymnastics team in the nation boasts one or more girls trained in Texas. We have like 88 Trillion dollars of excess in our Athletics budget pending. We ARE Texas, meaning we have the best looking delicious arse babes on campus, already. We could be smoking all y'all's asses.
Search my posts. I've been here, already.

How can y'all be Texas when there is already a school named Univerity of Texas.

Kaiser, I dated several gymnasts in my youth. One while I was at TAMU, and she had become a Strutter at SWT. Neither was teatless, and I rather enjoyed the nocturnal midget flipping.

They won't add gymnastics unless equestrian gets dropped by the NCAA as a varsity sport (which almost happened in 2015). Their equestrian roster is almost 50 which would then have to be offset with other opportunities or drop men's sports to even out the numbers for title IX compliance.
I suspect they'd add lacrosse, rowing, bowling, or gymnastics and drop men's diving if that happened like a lot of other schools I have done
