Gamecock Football Fires Chaplain

quote:

News of the decision was first reported by Gamecock football message boards – one of which claimed Muschamp told Despres he wanted an “inclusive” program that didn’t have Jesus as “a distraction.”

Despres had served as South Carolina’s football chaplain for the last sixteen years

Good. Sounds like a waste of money

Interesting, especially considering the approach their in-state rivals take.

I'm a pretty hardcore, conservative Christian type but I don't have any problems with it at all. If kids want to put stuff together or meet together then cool, but they don't need a program sponsored chaplain leading the way.

But seriously, I'll pray for his soul.

It's other places as well LINK

And if that is his reasoning, why fire the guy? Ok fine, you want "multiple voices", that's cool. So you fire the guy that's been there 16 years? Why not just reduce his role or bring on more support staff to provide multiple voices?

I despise Fitsnews. Will Folks is a Clemson fan, a democrat, and thinks he is never wrong.

Why not just never mention the chaplain publicly and not hire a new one if/when he retires/leaves?

Muschamp has no soul. That's why not.

People are losing their minds over this locally for no reason. Such a non-story.

He couldn't save but about 10 players a year, and after 15 years it was time to part ways. Miami might need a chaplain?

Exactly. I am a Christian, but I have zero issue with this at all.

It's probably more about the way he handled it ... he doesn't have a lot of people skills and is rough on people that work for him in any capacity.

I think he's so polar opposite from the way Holtz and Spurrier handled things that it's catching some of those who have been around the program for awhile, off-guard to put it lightly.

mUSChamp does a lot of screaming and hollering ... but we knew that going-in.

He's just got to learn to handle some things with a little more panache.

I'm not sure that is going to happen. I think he pretty much is who he is.

it really bothers me when people make gifs that loop after like 0.3 seconds. FFS make it a little longer unless seizure induction was the intent.
