Why does Tenn think Gruden would be a great college coach?

Because they have nothing else to hold on to.

One UT fan posted in another thread that his name recognition might trump all other options they have. Makes sense to me. If he could put together a college staff, it could work.

I can see that sort of.

They think he would draw "Saban-Type" talent. And, he might, for a couple of seasons.

I'm not convinced he would be able to cash in on the talent like Saban is doing.

Gruden enjoys the attention he gets every time his name is brought up for a coaching gig and he does nothing to quash those rumors.

He's a brilliant analyst but I'm not convinced he'd be an elite college coach. And who would be willing to take a pay cut to work exponentially more hours?

If he wants to coach again he can do that in the NFL and make more money and less headache from recruiting and dealing worth 18 year olds.

If he truly loved college he would have come back by now.

Who knows how Gruden would do as a college head coach. But IF they were able to land him, that would be a huge improvement over the garbage hires they've made this past decade.

I just don't see him putting in all the work 365 days a year. On one hand, he makes millions of dollars sitting around talking about football, watching some film, etc. Or, on the other hand, he grinds 365 days a year, has to please ridiculous fans, kiss the asses of snot-nosed kids, etc.

"John, I know you're getting paid a million dollars a year to watch Monday Night Football for a few months a year, but would you be interested in working 100 hours a week, 52 weeks a year at a school that literally uses garbage cans as motivational tools?"

"Is that a serious question?"

"What if I told you that all of your clothes would be the color of Trump's skin?"

Becaude the dude eats and sleeps football. He's still the only coach held in high enough esteem to be traded for, with first round picks no less. And , he brought a team to face teh team he built in the super bowl, and won! Gruden would also be a recruiting machine. He is known by every kid in the country. His QB camp videos are legendary. And, most importantly, he would moisten the pussy of every momma of every recruit. He'd be a machine. And, He'd have Warren fricking Sapp on staff. And some other Tampa / Oakland greats. Straight up SWAG staff. He's like Harbaugh but not nearly as goofy and he actually won his super bowl.

No one doubts Gruden knows how to coach, especially offense. Gruden took over a Tampa team already built and won a Super Bowl. Gruden also trended that Tampa team down afterward with poor drafts and personnel decisions, which Tampa is still trying to recover from.

So, the question is whether Gruden can be a successful CEO at the college level when he has no track record suggesting he can be.
