Why does Auburn put so much emphasis on the Heisman Trophy?

Is it as big a deal to y'all as it was pre 2010?

It is a big deal.

I think Henry will win.

He is really good.

They put a big deal on it for so long because It was actually something they had that Alabama didn't!

It would be a crime if Henry didn't win it.

You do know John Heisman coached at Auburn right?

It's a big deal, but it's only an individual award. I hope Henry wins but there are two other worthy as well.

Heisman coaching at Auburn is part of it, but it's a pretty big deal.

Henry deserves it.

I knew he coached at Auburn but he coached at several schools also. It's a great recruiting tool and that might be its greatest importance.

It is a hard award to vote for in that all players and all positions are eligible, but really it comes down to skill players on top teams for the most part.

Rare defensive players, even rarer linemen of any sort.

I think the position by position rewards may be more representative of individual ability. Like Davey O'brein QB award, Doak Walker RB award, etc.

I think Henry is the best player on his team on offense, but so is Deshaun Watson, Baker Mayfield, etc and so forth.

Bo Jackson put Auburn on the map. Cam did it for a new generation. They are transcendent athletes - that's what is required to overcome the shadow of the GOAT. Without those two guys, a lot of people don't know what Auburn is. They are very important to them

I will also add (again) if defensive players were still ever considered, Reggie Ragland would be there. So fun to watch. He loves playing the game as much as anyone I've seen win it in years. And his importance on the team and game effectiveness this year also qualify him as a top 5-10 player.
Of course, that's my opinion.
Also apologies for ALSO not following the prescribed script on here from rival fan bases

I guess what I don't really get is for a school to put so much extra emphasis on an individual award for a team sport.

Speaking of things that AU fans have that bammers don't...do you mean like degrees from our universities and ....class? Lol!
Henry becomes the first deserving Alabama player to win. Won't be close and shouldn't be. The best player on probably the best team.

It's also true like Scoop said that that was something they could hang their hat on that Bama didn't have for a long time. Shouldn't be surprising

Why not? The heisman represents the best player in college football, doesn't everybody want this on their team? I understand you're trying to troll and it hasn't worked for you, so carry on.

Sure they do. Just seems like at one point it was more important than the team for y'all. Auburn even has something called the Heisman room. Just seemed a little over the top.

Meh, it's cool and all, but it's still is one of the most overrated awards in all of sport. It's awarded by as much for politics and hype as it is for merit.

They almost gave it to Manti Teo for God's sake.

It's arguably the most famous individual award in all of American sport.

It's a big deal.
