What's the logic in adding two more teams? The whole point we got A&M and Mizzou was due to SEC Network nnegotiations. These two teams added the Texas and Midwest markets. Adding an Oklahoma would not add any large market and would only serve to divide the share of money by another team. If the SEC were ever to expand it would be to a new state in a decent market like NC or Virginia.

If some other conference decides to go super conference and have 16+ then the SEC will try to keep up and out do them. Let's hope it doesn't happen.

As said, some are stupid or just trolling. The only reason the Big 12 is expanding is because they finally suffered the consequences of not having a conference championship game for football. And even if the SEC wanted to expand, they're not getting Virginia, UNC, Clemson, or Duke because of the ACC contract (especially with their new network contract). No one else is worth it at this point IMO.

Emulating the Big 12 at this point is silly. They've almost collapsed because of their inability to share the wealth like the SEC does.

Maybe not, but NC is a good size market, and greatly increases our prestige in basketball.

Nobody's going to be going to 16+ anytime soon as there's only like 1 or 2 teams in the G5 that are even close to P5 worthy.

I would rather kick Texas A&M, Mizzou and Arkansas out, and add someone like Clemson, Florida State or Oklahoma. SEC wise, Mizzou has been most successful by reaching two SECCG, but they were blown out in both.

The ACC members just signed a 20 year contract with their network and their Grant of Rights locks them in:

quote:

The Atlantic Coast Conference presidents approved Monday a grant of media rights for the league through 2026-27, effectively halting the exodus of any schools to other conferences.

The move solidifies the future of the ACC, which had several teams that had been speculated as targets of the Big Ten.

The ACC's grant of rights makes it untenable financially for a school to leave, guaranteeing in the 14 years of the deal that a school's media rights, including revenue, for all home games would remain with the ACC regardless of the school's affiliation.

LINK

It's a cool $50 million to get out of the ACC for a long time. Maryland filed suit to get out and had to settle for a $31 million exit (because they never agreed to the Grant of Rights).

I would say a decent size of the argument would be scheduling. There isn't a fair way to have 14 teams in a 12 game season that doesn't ruin existing rivalries outside the conference.

We could move to 9 conference games like the rest of the p5 conferences.

The west should trade Auburn for Mizzou and be done with it.

Why would the SEC go to 16 just to get to 16? If there were two game changers out there, they might think about it, but, in the current landscape, there just aren't any for the SEC.
