Why do so many SEC fanbases dislike/are indifferent toward basketball?

And furthermore, why actively make their disdain for the sport known in basketball related threads?

Untill Mizzou got here all the SEC really has is UF, UK and sometimes another team.

I don't get it either. Especially for teams that have historically had some pretty good years in basketball.

I think for most it's as simple as they're just not very good. It still irks me though knowing how much bad football I've watched but still love it equally.

I like basketball. And I'm excited for our basketball future after this season, which won't be good. Our recruiting class for 2014 is right up there near the top of the league with UK.

I wish Auburn had a decent basketball team. I love college hoops.

Well, in fairness, you see some basketball fans from Vandy, Florida, Bama and occasionally the Mississippi schools too. Not sure how the A&M fans really view it.

Because most of the SEC teams suck in basketball, basically. Lot of good baseball threads though.

Alot of fair weather basketball fans in the SEC. We've sucked at it recently as a conference, at least in comparison with our dominance in baseball in football...

Most here care when their team is good, but otherwise it is just the downtime until baseball starts. Don't get it twisted, we still watch the games, just don't have the same passion for it as we do other sports...

Its this weird sport ESPN fills the months known as the offseason with.

I think its like Tai Chi.

I thought this for a second, but given the tremendous success Florida has had in basketball, they really don't get great fan support.

I like it and watch/go to every game I can, but we really suck and it's disheartening. At least football is once a week and gets a ton of national attention. It's a lot harder to follow/get excited about a subpar basketball team.

I don't hate basketball, and I'm actually excited for LSU for the first time in awhile.

However, basketball was something I only played to fill the void between football and baseball growing up. I just was never good at it, and put all my attention into football/baseball
