Since returning to Louisville, Petrino is 1 - 9 versus ranked teams. Mullen is 2 - 15 against ranked teams.

Arkansas wants Bobby back Mullen is probably going somewhere else

They're trying to think outside the box.

Let's be honest: they can't be any worse than the current list of retard shite running this conference.

They need to go after Tubberville

Petrino-love is misguided. Just starry-eyed fans who can't see past the gaudy offensive numbers. Mullen is a solid coach at a historically-bad program who has managed to make MSU an occasional threat to beat much better programs. People want him because he has the potential to be very good at a program with more history, recruiting power, and resources than Mississippi State. Whether he would pan out isn't certain, but he definitely shows potential to do so.

I'll never understand the fascination with Petrino. He left Arkansas' defense in such a shambles even 2013 Ole Miss was able to move the ball against it at will. Now that Strong's recruits at Louisville are moving on, the Cardinals' defense is becoming a laughing stock.
As for Mullen, his failure to go all out for the win in big games is not a characteristic top-level programs want in a HC. Being content to lose to Alabama by 5 instead of playing to win: inexplicable.

I understand the push for Mullen a little more than that of Petrino. What Mullen did in 2014 at Miss St. was better than anything Petrino has done at L'ville. Miss St are not an elite team by any means, but Mullen gets some good players there and develops them well, and every few years they are a solid team. L'ville get blown out anytime they play a team with a competent defense.

Coaches can take on the personality of the program. Places like MSU (and, yes, Vanderbilt) do tend to be happy just giving a strong opponent a serious test even when they lose.

You have over 1500 posts here. How do you not know that trolling a poster's team is gonna happen regardless of the question? It's just how the Rant rolls. And occasionally slippy-slides on Crisco.

The State fans in my extended family would respectfully disagree with you. Mid-level programs like Ole Miss and State have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shine on the big stage, and their fans don't want to see the HC blow it by giving the conference giants nothing more than a "serious test".

They can disagree, and I'm not in a position to question this assertion, but my experience is that the fanbase as a whole -- and the OM fanbase too, for that matter, since I can speak on that topic, given that half my family is OM through-and-through -- but I don't see a contradiction between saying fans want to succeed and reach the very top and saying those same fans, however, are generally resigned to their school's position in the grand scheme of things. Or, to put it in focus in relation to this site -- do MSU fans show even a fraction of the sense of entitlement that LSU, Bama, Auburn and even UT fans show?
