why do people who have never played a sport try to criticize coaches and players

I get that some people, for whatever the reason, enjoy watching sports that they've never played and that's understandable. But to criticize those who play it on an x's and o's level is ridiculous. If you've never played I don't see how you could understand how the game works. Some people on this board really show there stupidity during certain times of the year.
All you people that disagree should never again talk about fans who root for schools they never attended because as you have stated here you don't have to have ever been apart of something to understand it and have an opinion on it.

There's a lot of things i've never done that i criticize. I've never had a child but I can tell when someone sucks as a parent. I've never swam with sharks, but I can tell when that's done wrong.

I've never done a lot of things but I can still tell when people do those things wrong sometimes. If athletes and coaches want public attention, expect public criticism. I've never driven a bulldozer but if I see a video of one being driven off a cliff can I not say they made a mistake?

How much do I have to play before I can criticize someone? Is the one day I played in high school enough, or do I have to make it through a season?

I don't criticize basketball because I never played and I don't know all the intricacies of the game.
I do feel like I know enough about other sports that I played to provide some insight but sometimes you do really have to understand that the other team has just as good or better players and maybe that is the reason things don't work in your favor all the time.
