Why did LSU rush the hire?

After they knew they weren't going to get Herman or Jimbo, what was the point of pulling the trigger on Orgeron so quickly? Why not wait a couple of weeks and look at some of the other options (Mullen, Whittingham, Fedora, etc)? I mean, it's not like Orgeron was some hot commodity that you had to make a move on or he would be gone.
It just makes it seem as though hiring Coach O was the plan all along, and that Alleva did not really have any desire to go through a full coaching search.
I say all of this in absolute seriousness, this isn't a troll thread. The decision is perplexing, and I can see how the way this was handled would be frustrating for the corndogs.

They rushed the fire not the hire. If they had've waited, they would've know UT and ND would be lokking for a coach. They didn't know it would be a bad year to fire a coach. That is why you wait until the end of the year. They went from one of their winningest coach to this proven loser.

Exactly why most are pissed. Why not wait at least another week and see how it all unfolds. Maybe Herman doesn't jump at Texas if he has 2 options on the table instead of 1, maybe loop back around to Jimbo again. It just looks like LSU was being cheap. You can't be elite if you don't want to pay elite coaches.
