Why did Auburn run a fake FG against Arkansas State?

I didn't watch the game. Was it close at the time? Was it a long attempt? Just seems strange to do that against an inferior opponent.

Because it's Auburn.

Because their offense isn't good enough to score

I didn't understand it either. It was 21-7 and we were playing well. Wish we saved it for a bigger game.

Our offense scored the play before, but it was called back for a phantom illegal motion call.

And we scored 51 points...

It just gives future opponents something else to worry about.

Yeah, that was totally the reason. The offense could only muster 706 total yards.

We got screwed out of a TD by a nonexistent penalty. Gus had watched tape of them selling out on FG atts. We ran a good counter to that and put the dagger in early

How Auburn Pulled off a fake field goal

Basically Herb Hand ( our O line coach) thought we it'd be easy when watching film this week. So we did

21-7 at the time.

Probably just ran it to put it on tape, but the coaches saw something and thought they could get it.

It was not the difference in the game.

Gus should have just shown his arse on the sidelines, huh?

Because we felt like it. If Saban had done it to WKU you would all be slobbering all over about it.

No it wasn't close at the time, no it wasn't a long attempt, and no it wasn't necessary.

Just Gus again trying to convince people that he is some sort of offensive genius

Here is why he did it......

We have arguably the best FG in the nation. The next time we line up for a 50+ yard field goal, the rush off the ends may not be as quick. Like I said earlier in this post, it just gives future opponents something else to think about.

Saban wouldn't do that against WKU, but if he did I would think it was a stupid call.

Gus just bought the nickname "Riverboat Gambler" from Tubbs for 7 bucks and 2 old Chizik dental smocks we had lying around. He's trying to get it to catch on.

Can Auburn claim 4 plays now instead of 3?

Show the play early in the year and you'll generally get teams to play soft against future attempts...good idea if you're worried about your blocking scheme, snapper or speed of your kicker.
