Why can't the SEC produce great QBs every year?

No doubt we have the best skill positions outside of QBs consistency..It probably cost handful of teams N-ships or BCS bowl appearances in past. Are we not getting 5-stars in SEC or not developing them properly.

HS coaches in the south usually put the best athlete at that position. Demographics play a huge part in this equation as well. Out west, the rich kids get the best training.

Because you don't have to have great QB play to win in this league.

I totally disagree outside of LSU 2011?...Every team that won Sec past 12 years had Quarterback in Top 25 QBR...maybe it's not the case this year.

Yeah but "pretty good" isn't "great", which is what one would assume given how the SEC is supposedly da best at everything. Out of the Top 10 QBs in CFB this year, I think only Brandon Allen really belongs there. Earlier in the year you could make a case for Kyle Allen but his OC and OL are horrendous, he hurt, and he choked hard against Bama.

I think it's in part due to many of the SEC schools continuing to run pro-style offenses and not recruiting athletic/duel-threat QB's. I know this has been the case at Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Florida, SC and Arkansas and Tennessee until both recently got athletic QB's, Allen and Dobbs respectively. I want to see UGA recruit more athletic QB's. It just makes sense to have a quarterback who is a duel threat. The perfect example is Deshawn Watson, from the state of Georgia, who is now one the best QB's in the nation for the #1 Clemson Tigers.

It's a conference based on defense.

Year in, year out, the SEC probably produces more NFL defensive talent than the other P5's combined.

Is it that our QB'S are bad or is it that our Defenses make them seem bad? The UGA QB was all world until he started facing legit competition

How many of those elite QBs have done something at the next level? The best QBs in the NFL have been starting for 7-8 years straight. Everyone else has a revolving door of ineffective QBs. Most highly touted college QBs do nothing at the next level.

As far as why the QBs here don't put up video game number, we play a lot more defense here than elsewhere around the country.

Boykin
Barrett
Watson
Zaire
Rosen
Kessler
Cook

I would put at least those 7 up ahead and I haven't even begun to dig. I like Dak as a QB though, especially a college QB and think he should be in there

Rosen is supremely talented and will be a Top 10 QB, but he has not been one this year.

#43 passer rating, 62% completion, 18/7 QB to INT ratio

If I was ranking Top 10 QB's based on purely performance (not NFL future) I'd go (in no real order)

Boykin (TCU)
Watson (Clemson)
Prescott (State)
Doughty (WKU)
M. Williams (UNC)
B. Allen (Arky)
Lynch (Memphis)
Cook (Michigan State)
Mayfield (Oklahoma)
Barrett(OSU)

. Given that the QBs that do something at the next level generally hold their positions for 10 years or so, that seems like s bad barometer. Seriously, how many NFL teams will even draft a QB this year? 8-10? And 5-7 of those will never have a starting job

If Dak Prescott can maintain his accuracy in the NFL he could be another Ben Roethlisberger.

I'm not talking about video game numbers, I mean we don't see the pocket passers consistently being developed more regular. No not every one in SEC has a stout defense...So if we don't hit on all-world athlete QB you're screwed in SeC?

Was really impressive against Ole Miss. Has a cannon, is big, can move around. Really good player.
