Because most of them have large Education, Social Work, Communication, etc schools, and those jobs don't pay very much money.
Add to that if graduates stay in state that most live in areas where cost of living/wages are much lower (basically everywhere in the SEC footprint outside of South Florida, Dallas, Houston and Atlanta, and even those 3 are low-cost compared to other large cities), and even well earning professionals wages will be significantly lower than a school who places most of their graduates in Northeastern/West Coast/Chicago cities.

I should've attended a service academy.

The degree makeup is the key. If you have a lot of teachers, etc., then the salaries will be low. If you are an engineering school like GT, you will be higher. This list should really be done by major, compare GT, Auburn, Arkie, TAMU engineers would be of greater value.

This is what irrelevance in athletics gets you. Even vanderbilt fans dont post threads like this in a sports forum. Frickin aggies. A&M acts like theyre the only ones that have wealthy alumni in the conference. What a joke.

Its the NW Arkansas conundrum. The wages look very mediocre in the area but the cost of living is so much lower that people actually wind up with more take home money then folks from the big cities.
40 grand in most of California lands you in lower middle class status. Or lower in the big cities. In most of Louisiana you are doing pretty good on that. Yeah, you have to make sure you don't make any dumb financial decisions but you should be comfortably middle class on that money and live in a nice house.
I think it is easier to have a white picket fence style home in the South with the average college degree income then it is a lot of country, even with the lower wages.

Obviously you didn't look at that the list very closely. Most of the Top 5 schools are Service Academy Schools with career Serviceman as their graduates. The pay scale is very structured and above the national average. My guess is A&M is on that list because of the Corp of Cadets.

That's because the cost of living down here compared to other places is so much cheaper. So with that goes your salary. Lets take a school teacher for example. They can come out and make $35-$40K to start but in Chicago they will make $75K.

Not a bad place. My maid attended there and got her BA in Women's studies and a Masters in Art History.
She is really get the most out of her UT-Austin education. Should have those student loans paid off in about 8 more years.

Also, mid-career people now would have graduated int he 80's 90's when some of the SEC schools may not have been as quality as they are now.
