So I don't get why Miss State or other fans are upset about this lawsuit. Lewis and Kobe told the truth to the NCAA and would certainly never lie to them, so all they have to do is continue to tell the truth and they would win the lawsuit and could sue Rebel Rags right back. Clearly nobody else offered Lewis any impermissible benefits, so him taking the stand would be the best thing in the world because he would talk about all the cheating and money Ole Miss offered but under oath could say it was just Ole Miss and Rebel Rags that was doing stuff. If he was asked under oath if State offered him any money or anything else, he can proudly NO, only Ole Miss did that and there would be no perjury or any consequences because that is the truth. If I was a State fan, I'd be loving this lawsuit and praying it goes to court so Lewis could give his testimony and expose all the corruption of Ole Miss and the alumni. Then he could sue RR and Ole Miss media. Hell, Bama and Oregon's football facilities will be put to shame once Leo donates some of the money he'll win back to the school he loves so much.

Whether he was given money by other schools is totally irrelevant to the lawsuit and therefore he will not have to answer questions like that.

This is an American court of law, not the Hotty Toddy bullshite hour.

How would that have anything to do with LL purposely trying to damage Rebel Rags ?

Start by looking up the definition of "pertinent"

Why do OM fans want State fans to be mad about the Rebel Rags lawsuit?

Both fan bases have become insufferable.
These threads would feel at home on the OM/MSU boards.

Actually that is not totally true. In depositions they can ask Leo anything that they want including questions outside the realm of this lawsuit The answers may not be allowed in the courtroom testimony but they will still be in the deposition. In the deposition his attorneys will object but he will still have to answer the question

It isn't a winning case and potentially falls into the frivolous category. That said, if it even gets to point of depositions, Ole Miss fans need to realize the defense will likely have other student athletes who come forward to make similar claims as Lewis and Kobe.

Defamation is going to be difficult to prove. Commercial Disparagement is going to be difficult to prove. Commercial Conspiracy is going to be difficult to prove. All of those things - even in a civil trial where the burden is less - are an uphill battle for plaintiff.

Yeah. That'll go something like this:

"objection. speculative and irrelevant."
"Sustained."

quote:

under oath could say it was just Ole Miss and Rebel Rags

would be the only questions allowed in a case about Ole miss and RR.

You really need to step back into reality bro.

I don't think anybody's mad about it. I think everybody's pretty much just making fun of Ole Miss LOL

Sealed testimony/transcripts , huh?

Where have we seen that tactic before?

I'm not a fan of OM or State, but the lawsuit seems venal and vindictive. Some businessman is using a kid as a surrogate for the rival football program and is forcing that kid to defend himself in a "friendly" OM venue, where the kid will be at a disadvantage in every meaningful way. it just seems shameful and spiteful.
A lawyer advising R. Rags would have surely told his client that the adverse publicity arising solely from the litigation would do more harm to it than anything Lewis et al said about it,
Yet, a decision was made to prosecute the case.
Other than pure spite, why?

You do realize that even asking the question is irrelevant to the suit? A non-corrupt judge would limit questions to relevant topics. Whether anyone else provided benefits isn't relevant.

The OM fanbase is getting their info from their guy at Scout.

Here's an example of his legal analysis:

"**People have asked about the possibilities of the Ole Miss coaches being subpoenaed and having to give a deposition with the Rebel Rag lawsuit.

This lawsuit is squarely on Leo Lewis, Kobe Jones, and Lindsey Miller and their claims that they received free merchandise from Rebel Rags.

The only two OM coaches who are involved in this according to the report are Barney and Kiffin. No other coach should be able to be questioned or answer questions that doesn't involve Rebel Rags."

I am not mad. Less than zero percent chance that lawsuit makes it to a court room.

Matt Wyatt on SuperTalk Radio is certainly mad.

Matt knows what is going to happen. Coach Dan Mullen will have to admit he and Leo talked about the NCAA statement. Everyone who helped Leo with the Statement will be called for a deposition.

And, an 18 year old will never be able to get a sealed deposition for defamation against a business in Mississippi. Remember that our Supreme Court is all Republican, the party of corporate America.
