re: Why are Mizzou Fans so Butthurt about Being in the SEC?

Late to the party, but here is my take. I think the biggest emotion from Mizzou fans about joining the SEC was first relief. It is undeniable that Texas made the Big 12 a shiteshow. The SEC move gave us stability. However, Any loyal Mizzou fan has to admit that it sucks not playing traditional rivals, and old big 8 foes. I myself am in no way a hater of the move, as it was clearly, without doubt, a good move. But I am one of those who thinks we might have fit better in the Big10. Not popular with Rant Mizzou fans, but, there is a significant portion who also agree with my position. Again, not hating on the SEC, just that we would fit better.

Couple things I think contribute to the idea that we pushback. 1. Obviously the protest thing. Big black eye for us, although I think a heavy majority of the fan AND alumni base were not happy about it. Sucks, but I think we all want to move past it. 2. Worst Basketball teams in our University's history, by a huge margin. Y'all may not realize it, but our program has an enormous amount of pride for basketball. Last 4 years have been the darkest in history, so that has jaded the view I think. We hope coach Martin can finally make the next step with coaching. Fans have already bought in, and recruiting is obviously back. Mizzou arena was a terror, with the hearnes as a behemoth before that.
3. The one I think gets overlooked a lot, being in the East.... and travel. I think there would have been a lot more embracing of Mizzou if we were in the West. Our closest East opponents leave something to be desired. Had we been in the west, we would already have a decent rapport with A&M fans. Arkansas has been decent. Ole Miss is actually closer for some in our state than Mizzou is. Would make travel easier and more likely to see opposing fans. Sucks that no one besides maybe Kentucky and Arkansas will get to travel for basketball games. That is something fans miss too. Under 4 hour jaunts to Ames, Manhattan, or Lincoln could be done for a lot of the fan base... that is kinda lost in the SEC.

To me. Those are underrated aspects of college sports. But, wouldn't wish to be included in the dysfunctional 12

Who knows what's going to happen to the rest of the teams in the Big 12 if Texas and OU decide to make a move in the future.
