PP7 said that Urban Meyer called the NCAA about his score IIRC; believe it was late in the game as well.

The crazy thing is...he was an early enrollee. Why does it take this long for them to flag it?

Right...for some reason I got it in my mind that he was an EE. Thinking about it now, we didn't have any WRs as EEs. My bad.

He wanted to be one but I guess his academics weren't in order or he wanted to stay home with his girlfriend.

This is the same kid Auburn told to go home on his visit. Was rumored to be smoking pot around coaches and other recruits.

That's so inaccurate it's retarded. He wore Tennessee clothes and was openly recruiting for UT while he was on his visit there.

Don't worry GoldenFlakes, I'll take it for him.

In all seriousness, an 11 point jump isn't that unusual if you score low the first time and go from like 16 to 27. It's pretty common for those who take the ACT, SAT, GRE, LSAT etc. to see sizable gains between the first time they take it and the second time because familiarity with the test setup helps just like practice tests do. Now if it went from 22 to 33 then it's more suspicious because it's more difficult to make those kinds of jumps once you're into the upper areas of the test.

At any rate, he'll be fine. If not, well, nothing I can do about it.

This is just not true. If someone is such a dumb shite to get a 16, they definitely are not jumping to a 27 unless someone else takes the test for them.

Well if they are dumb as shite they're not but plenty of intelligent people score low the first time they take the ACT. It happens a great deal more when schools don't offer pretests and prepping. Once you have the logic of the test figured out (or taught to you which is what all those prep companies do) your score will rise whether you've improved actual knowledge of a subject matter or not. It's a matter of understanding how the test ticks and what it wants you to answer.

People pay thousands of dollars for Kaplan courses and others because it works and half the battle is understanding what the test wants from you or being familiar with the question set up. The shortcuts and processes to beat the test that they use work.

From what I hear, he was using his ACT prep book not for studying but for rollin' doobies.

He's gonna be doing alot of doobie rolling when he's living in a van down by the river.

Yeah. I mean, they automatically red-flag those for a reason, but that's not the same as it automatically being cheating. I used to tutor kids who pissed off their first year, then got serious, went to tutoring, studied, and made dramatic turnarounds. One of the kids I tutored in basic studies for his GRE even made a dramatic leap in his score and managed to get into Johns Hopkins because of it. It happens.

Then again, cheating happens too and I'm sure most here would agree with me that UT athletes need to be watched extra closely.

But of course, they are UT athletes. Hell, even our Rocket Scientist QB, Biomedical Engineering Safety, and Pharmacy Major Corner have to be watched for thrill cheating. If unwatched they'll be pursuing that adrenaline rush of giving away answers to other kids or cheating despite knowing the answer all for the thrill of the cheat.

ETA: And good work helping that kid get in to JH. Good tutoring and support matters a lot more than people realize and should be lauded.

I'm pretty sure the pharmacist that gave me placebos rather than the critical medicine I needed to cure my rabies was a UT grad, so you can understand why I might be a little bitter.

I'll tell you what I told him -- it was his hard work that made the difference.

I'll also tell you what I told everyone else -- it was all because of me. I am a god and he was lucky to have me.

ETA: Since it's not inconceivable that he could be reading this, and since the clues regarding who I'm talking are pretty easy to add together, that last part was a joke. Honest. Well, mostly honest.

Going up 11 points is not the norm. If you just sign your name, you should get a 20. There are only so many test taking strategies and they are not going to increase your score 11 points. Book smarts has to take over and if originally scoring a 16, that tells me there are not a lot of book smarts there. But who knows, maybe the test that the athletes take is a "special" version of the test that will give them an 11 point increase.
