"We fired Richt because he underachieved with his talent level"

"Kirby did bad this year because he had no talent to work with"

Well where was all that talent that was Richt underachieving with?

TN will beat UGA in Neyland to extend the streak to 3.

But I think with TN's West draw we have the same number of L's at the end of the season.

3 or 4 each.

A horrible non call of offensive pass interference is the only thing that saved UT last season vs a very young UGA team. With Chubb and Michel back, a better oline, and more seasoned QB, plus piss and vinegar, I think UGA throttles UT and wins the East going away.

That's not why Richt got fired. Your average fan thinks that, but UGA's talent level has been way down the last several years.

UGA likely has the better record. With the way Butch has been coaching and the talent the Vols lost they will be competing with the little 6 schools in the east for 3rd.

Are you really comparing a coach that was here 15 years with one in his first head coaching job ever? In case you forgot Richt only won 8 games his first year too..

I hate to get involved in dumbass arguments like this but I'll try to answer your question. As a whole (as in, over FIFTEEN YEARS) we should have won more than we did with richt. Although it's been repeated ad nauseum, but our talent was grossly overstated. We routinely had top 10 level talent, and typically had around top 10 results. The UF/LSU/Bamas of the world that had top 2/3 recruiting...well you get the idea. Anyways....towards the end of Richt's tenure, our recruiting was a disaster. The '13 class was one of the worst we've ever had considering injuries/departures/dismissals/busts, and the '14 class was only marginally better. Guess what? Those 2 classes make up what should be Kirby's upperclassmen in his first year. And as such it showed on the field. Would you say that's inaccurate or unfounded? Kirby did have some great pieces to work with, but they were all inexperienced underclassmen for hte MOST part. And similar to that story, we just signed the #3 class which is good for our "overall talent" but those guys are all true freshmen, so how much should they really be expected to do?

The whole Kirby/talent thing will really payoff after a full recruiting cycle when Kirby has a roster full of his own guys. And no, that's not me saying "we won't be any good until 4 years in", it's just sayign that the indisputable black and white fact is that kirby inherited a roster woefully lacking experienced talent at some VERY key positions.

If we're going 8-4 3 years from now then I'll admit kirby is a bum, but I just don't see that happening. Hell even Richt, who most people say was overrated and sucked, won 13 games in his 2nd year. I think people somehow overlook the fact that last year was kirby's first year as a head coach, ever.

With richt, it was a ten year view, 06-15. Doesn't prove the 2015 or 2016 teams were as talented as say the 2008 or 2012 uga teams.

How did this happen? I don't mean playing LSU we always get a shitty West draw despite playing Bama but how did it end up AFTER the Vandy game? Aside from the rescheduled 9/11 game vs Florida, I don't recall us ever playing anyone but UK or Vandy at the end of the year.

TBH, I like it there better than the usual placement because it breaks up the games and eliminates things like the 4 game meat grinder that is a ridiculous schedule to play. It's just odd.

Aww that's cute

With Chubb and Michel back

Neither ran for over 100 yards in a game last season EDITED this is completely wrong. I misread the article

quote:

a better oline

What makes you say that? You lose 3 starters from a line that had the 12th most rushing TDs in the SEC, 9th most ypg, and 9th ypc, and 8th in total yards. Yes you got some good recruits but SEC lineman is one of the toughest spots to step in a play as a young guy.

quote:

more seasoned QB

He will be a very good QB, no arguments here. but whos he gonna throw to? Can Ridley stay healthy? Godwin didn't score a TD last year. Wims doesn't produce much and Chigbu is a blocker. The rest are freshmen.

quote:

plus piss and vinegar

Does that mean Kirby? Cause he really looked over his head a few times last season. Hes still not a sure thing.

quote:

think UGA throttles UT

The last 6 games in this series have been decided by a touchdown or less...so I doubt anyones getting throttled

The best way to win the East anymore is to not try to actually win the East. Just try to back into it.
