Does it matter? Whoever gets the job will suck, just like all the other ones since 08. Minus Mett.

That would be scary to see Arden Key run the read option though

Because Bama has been such a bastion of QB play.

Bama just had a QB won SEC offensive player of the year. Had a QB win the Maxwell award and finish 2nd in the heisman race in 13.

I'm hoping one of the younger guys take the job from Etling before the season.

Narcisse, Brenna, and Scott have more all around talent and game on film. They haven't been on the big stage, but if any could show they are mature enough to start then they should start day 1.

Not me.

That's just dumb - and typical of an LSU fan to think the best QB is on the bench.

There is NO WAY any of those guys starts over a 5th year senior. You may as well accept that now so as not to be disappointed when the season starts.

What was the common thread binding all those LSU teams from 2008 through early 2016? Hint: He was fired. Miles ran a shitty offense and didn't develop quarterbacks. He's not around anymore. There's not some magical hex around LSU that means we'll never have a good QB.

Danny Etling without a doubt

Etling is a higher rated prospect than all of the QBs you named except Brennan (Brennan 7th, Etling 9th). So you're 100% wrong about Scott and Narcisse being more talented.

So in your opinion it's just the LSU brand that makes QB suck. Nothing to do with HC, OC or QB coach I assume?

Will it be Etling again?

Orgeron said competition is open, but Etling is "clearly" in the lead. Some seem to think Lindsey Scott, Jr. can beat him out, though. With a new offense, the opportunity for someone to unseat Etling may be greater than it ordinarily would be. I'm excited to find out. I'd be happy with Etling, so if someone else does better and takes the job, I'll only be happier. I'm assuming (with no inside information) we'll probably try to redshirt Narcisse and Brennan if we can, unless one of them really impresses and gets into the mix.

The last 4 seniors to start at QB for LSU had a combined record of 48-7, with 3 SEC championships, 3 NC games, and 2 NCs for their senior years.

Mauck wasn't a senior in 2003, so who won the other NC besides Flynn in 2007?

The last four seniors to start at QB for LSU were

2013: Mettenberger (10-3)
2011: Jefferson and Lee (13-1)
2007: Flynn (12-2)

Combined record 35-6, 2 SEC titles, 2 NC game appearances, 1 NC.

If you go all the way back to Mauck in 2003 (even though he wasn't a senior), then you'd also have to include Marcus Randall in 2004 (9-3, no title).

Remember Etling didnt play game 1, didn't start game 2 and we had a game cancelled in the Florida fiasco.

If you extrapolate Etling's average numbers as starter in 2016 into a full season+bowl (13 games), it's a 60% completion rate 2,630 yards and 13 touchdowns.

If you extrapolate his stats from the games after Miles/Cameron were fired his 13 game stats based on average numbers... 61% 2,746 yards 13 touchdowns

If I was told Etling would throw for 2,700+ yards in 2017, I'd be ecstatic. Maybe it's not a huge stretch.

High school rating translates to actual talent? Lot of factors to consider. Each has something that the other doesn't offer.

Why wouldn't it be Etling? He seemed pretty good to me.
It will be Etling. Improved leaps and bounds under Canada.

Nobody is even close, nor have they even taken a snap in a college football game.

Brennan will be a factor in the Fall........

Hurts was awful in the postseason, get the feeling a lot of teams will just stack the box against Bama this year because Hurts hasn't shown he can beat teams with his arm. We played a very vanilla defense against him and outside of his 1 run broken open by a triple hold, he was completely shut down.
