I say Tenn cans him before season is over. He was given a gift after losing to Vandy last year.

I would bring Bert in this but Hog fans seem happy with him winning 7 or 8 games. A new baby may even be another distraction for Bert.

Stole this from another board because it's worded better than I could have said it:

5-7 (6th in East), 7-6 (4th in East), 9-4 (2nd in East), 9-4 (2nd in East).

Butch has clearly turned the program around and has yet to lose a bowl game or regress from one year to the next.

Yes 2016 was a complete disappointment losing to Vandy and SCjr and it cost UT the East.

However, you simply have to factor in 3 of 4 captains missed a combined 17 games, Hurd selfishly quit the team mid season avg less than 4 yards a carry and only 3 rushing TDs and lost the starting MLB, both 5-star DTs and senior DOB for 25 combined games. (These aren't "excuses". These are legit reasons why ANY coach in the country would underachieve in a given season IMO.)

AND still beat our 2 biggest division rivals in the same season for the first time since 2004, still didn't regress in wins or the east standings, still won another bowl game going away and still finished ranked in back to back years for the first time in over a decade.

Now, is 9 wins and 2nd in the east UT's new expectations? Of course not. Do I still question if Butch can get us over the hump and win the east to position us to win a SEC title and make the playoffs? Of course I do.

But with what he's done so far, combined with his staff changes and the 2018 class being in position to finish in the Top 10, I just don't see why ppl can't give him a chance in 2017 and 2018 to get this thing over the top.

IMO anything less than 7-5 and a bowl win warrants the discussion many are trying to have this offseason in terms of getting rid of him. However, if he hits the 8 win mark I think he deserves one more shot in 2018 to win the East. If he can't get to ATL by 2018 then it's time to move on.

I can see if Butch coaches Tenn for the next 100 years he can make it to 10 wins.

Sumlin is gone this year. No qb. Defense lost all of its talent basically. He is gone. Ole miss and A&M battle for last place in the west.

Sumlin is feeling the pressure too. All his interviews are uncomfortable.

Sumlin has to go AT LEAST 10-2 to keep his job. That might not even be enough depending on who the two losses come against.

I say this thinking they are going to throw the treasury at Chip Kelly. If Chip is interested Sumlin has to kill it to keep his job.

My pick: Sumlin canned first, but they both bite the dust this year

Chip will never come to College Station. Absolutely nothing to do in this shithole.

Sumlin is feeling no pressure. Barely picked to finish above the Mississippi schools, and not by much.

Should beat Nichols State, New Mexico and perhaps UL-Lafayette.

That will give our flunky AD an opportunity to give him another 5 year extension as we head to Shreveport or Houston for a bowl game.

Oh, I almost forgot, he will roll the Fatman in the Jerry World game......as usual.

Butch has made progress each year he has been at Tennessee. His teams need to learn how to finish down the stretch. That's it.

Sumlin basically has to win the West or go 10-2 this year to not get fired.
