That is like arguing water is not wet. It is what it is whether you like it or not. A&M & tu are both the flagship.

Yeah he said public...
With which I'd go UCLA in consideration
If he said private, USC with Miami considered and ND at 1

We claim 1927 as well. And 1917 is unclaimed but awarded (I believe).

Regardless it doesn't make all that much difference now.

*edit- are you only wanting public universities?

Yea, the gist of the thought was the non-"state school" (like Auburn, Mississippi State, Clemson, etc). That kind of gets watered down in huge states like Florida, California and Texas.

Also - interesting stuff on A&M and Texas Farmer. Never knew A&M was older than Texas.

You can link whatever you want all day long and nothing will change Texas is the major university in that state. A&M is a great school and joining the SEC has really helped them, whenever you ask people off the street no one who isn't an A&M fan or graduate is going to think they are the "flagship" university of Texas. That's in Austin.

Damnit. Then all the schools you listed are pretty much it, other than UCLA.

No doubt...and Ohio State is absolutely the flagship of Ohio. There is no legitimate argument on either UT or OSU not being the flagships.

So it is flagship or major university? We are defining flagship as what some random people off the street think and not with facts? You're better than that.

There is a legitimate argument against Texas being the (only) flagship. In fact, it's not an argument--it's an established fact that the state of Texas has two.

We're not discussing ohio state here.

Half of our commits commit by saying University of Auburn, so I don't think we should be included.

I disagree. Only those people who are conditioned to think of "University of State" as flagship schools would mistake the University of Texas as the only flagship school in that state.

If you're familiar with Texas or have lived there, as I have, there's no debate that both A&M (the oldest school) and the University of Texas are both flagships. As with all things in that state, they have more and bigger everything.

Don't bring facts and logic into this discussion. I can't speak for anyone else here, but I am just harassing the goat farmers a little bit.

I don't see why y'all are so burnt up about being the 2nd school in a huge state. There is no shame in being behind UT. Perhaps if you want to be the flagship school of a state then whoever built A&M shouldn't have put it in the same state as one of the most popular schools in the nation. I will make arrangements for a support group composed of all the sad A&M fans and sad Auburn fans from the other thread in order to get some of this frustration out.
