What are these "national championship programs in your state" that you speak of? Are there a bunch of national title contenders in the state of Georgia that I don't know about? You MUST BE talking about programs in Florida and Alabama.

You "seal your state up" because most of the out of state recruiters that are in your state are sitting in Atlanta Int. waiting for their connecting flight to Florida or they're coming back from Texas.

Both schools have a very large, very loyal fanbase.

Georgia yes, Texas not-so-much. They've been down for less than 5 years, and I can't even tell you the last time I saw someone in Longhorn stuff walking around in public (I live dear downtown Dallas).

Texas is the flagship university

A flagship. Texas does have two officially designated flagship universities.

quote:

A kid in Macon, Georgia usually dreams of growing up and playing for the dawgs just like Herschel did, just as a kid from Kerrville, Texas usually dreams of growing up and playing for the Horns like Earl Campbell did

Herschel Walker is from Wrightsville, GA, and Earl Campbell is from Tyler, TX.

quote:

Texas' is bigger, and is probably louder/more intimidating when they're good,

Texas' atmosphere is like a golf tournament. A number of their players have publicly lamented the quiet atmosphere of DKR. UGA, on the other hand, has a phenomenal atmosphere.

Don't believe everything you hear about UT and their "loyal" fanbase, it's a mile wide when they're winning 10+ games a season, but dries up like the Red River in July at the first sign of a downturn.

And to answer your question, Texas squanders more talent than any other program in the country, and it isn't close.

texas by far. it's also alot easier to win there. texas plays in the big 12 where they have 1-2 tough games a year. uga plays in the sec where nearly every week is a grindfest.

Texass's facilities have gone downhill

Austin's nice but texass's campus has become a commuter school type campus, it sucks. It's only redemption is that it's blocks from 6th street.

But basically it's University of Houston with a better history now.

All of these responses are wrong. UGA is irrelevant on the national football scene. According to the NCAA, UGA has only won 1 national title in its 100 year plus football history. They barely have a plus .500 history. UGA only has 2 more SEC titles in the last 35 years than Vandy or KY.

Unless the chart I'm looking at is out of date, UGA and LSU have (statistically) the same winning percentage. Wtf are you talking about?
Rank Team Won Lost Tie Win% Total Games
15 Georgia 777 410 54 .648 1241
16 LSU 761 401 47 .649 1209

He's trolling. UGA is historically more relevant, LSU may have surpassed given 2 recent titles.

As far as I recall, UGA, LSU and AU are all bunched pretty close together in that 11-15, "not quite elite" pack.

Texas is the most overall attractive school in the country when you take everything into consideration. It's just a matter of time until they are back on top of the conference and back in the national title conversation.

Maybe this was true 5/10 years ago. The problem is now that they are legitimately behind other instate schools.

We all should agree that Texas will be "back" (not Vols back, but Nationally back) at some point once they get the right coach, but the days of dominating the state are over.

Prior to 8 years ago (8 years, out of 120+ of football) there wouldn't be hardly any conceivable metric available that would have LSU as better than UGA. Obviously, they have done work recently and been more successful than us, but this new school youngster fanbase just doesn't understand that it wasn't always like this.

Florida as well. UGA/UF/AU/LSU are usually all right there neck and neck in that 10-15 range without really a whole hell of a lot of difference between them. Really, the biggest difference is that UF/LSU/AU have all done things in the last 10 years to get a neck up while UGA has stagnated. Really shows how much ahead we were prior to the 2000s.

That's incorrect...But Texas suffers from relevant in state programs with great HS ties, and OU sitting very close to Dallas.

And the fact that throughout the Mack Brown & Charlie Strong eras it's been clear that Stoops is the better actual coach because he succeeds despite having an inferior recruiting pitch (Austin over Norman, playing for your own state's team vs Oklahoma's) and less overall program money. Everyone knows Stoops is a COACH and Mack was a PR man and Charlie is a clown - the player's aren't deceived.
