Columbia isn't for everybody (it's not a college town)..
The tailgating scene is fun if you know where to go...
But if you're under the age of 40 and can't have fun in Columbia on a football game weekend then you are doing it wrong.. there are too many bars/nightclubs within a stones throw of campus that you can go to after a football game, some even stay open until 4am on football weekends.
And if you're a younger guy in your 20's and don't care for bars or nightclubs then hook up with some students and check out some house parties.. we invited visiting fans over to our house parties all of the time. Just to show them a different side of Columbia and I'm still friends with most of those fans to this day..

Yeah, most away fans I talk to have a good time in Columbia. With the improvements around the stadium, it should only get better.
The Georgia fans make UGA the worst. It is shame because Athens is a cool town. But, the UGA fans are horrible. I've been treated horribly there.

It seems most visitors are having the same complaints about cops in Gainesville. Things might be changing under the new president.
As for tailgating, it is a different scene at UF. We don't have one large location where everyone goes, instead we are spread out from one end of campus to the other. Outside of that, I haven't seen anything that would make UF tailgating any better or worse than any other school I've been too.

At last a Gator fan gets what I've been saying. Glad to see I'm no longer considered to be crying wolf.
As long as this craptastic permanent opponent shite show of a schedule is going on, Gainesville is crossed off my list of away games until I hear things are definitely better.
I never start shite anywhere, and I'm usually dressed better than the average fan...I get lots of "advice" there. I usually like to explore and try out the local dining establishments and watering holes, and I have no problem spending money when I travel. I'm basically the kind of traveling fan the local chamber of commerce loves to have visit.
The last three times I've been to Gainesville were made unbearable by both the UF and Gainesville PD's. To be fair, it was just the one time with Gainesville's "finest". Still one more time than I've had in any other SEC town.
The UFPD, I'm convinced, are the most unfriendly, biased, unhelpful, unreasonable, joyless asshats masquerading as officers of the law it has ever been my displeasure to meet. And not just on a college campus...anywhere.

UGA was the only place I had stuff thrown me, they looked afraid when we turned around and saw them. I chalked that up to just drunk idiots. Athens was awesome besides those three fools. Worst I've been to is Gainesville. It's just boring and not that exciting, second worst is College Station.
