I am talking about people who got their team shirts at Wal Mart.

Every single P5 school is about 80-90% sidewalk fans

What percent sidewalk do you think the Tennessee fanbase is?

This is a slightly more difficult question than first glance affords.

The answer is likely to be the state with the highest population, rather than the one with the highest bandwagon tendencies; I would, therefore, lean to Florida. Plenty of 'Gator' fans have no link to the university itself, and even those college educated generally went elsewhere in the state for college.

Wow this is an original thread. Of the 10 auburn fans that I consider friends, including my brother in law, not one of them went to Auburn and only 1 actually goes to games.

Not really. Florida is divided more than any other state in the south. UF has the most fans probably. But there are alot of FSU fans. And S.Florida is mostly Miami fans. Not to mention all the freakin' yankees that live here. You see Ohio st, Michigan fans regularly.

It's not a bad thing, it's a badge of honor to be loved by so many who want to be associated with the best.

If you want the true answer to the question it is Texas A&M but the difference in percentage of sidewalk fans vs alums at Texas A&M is probably only a few percentage points difference than sidewalk fans vs alums at Arkansas

Any major college team has an arse load of sidewalk fans. That doesn't mean they are any more or less of a fan than me just cause I attended the school.

I think it is probably Georgia or Tennessee, with the nod going to Georgia because of population. Thise two schools have in state rivals in Tech and Vandy who dont hold up their end of the bargain in terms of fanbases.

I mentioned in another thread that everything in the state of Georgia (government, media, social outlets) is designed to funnel dollars, resources and sidewalk alums into Dawgnation. Tech football is generally ignored or scorned 51 weeks out of the year.

Because of this all of Tech's fanbase are alums or family of alums. I dont think I know any sidewalk fans of Tech.

I honestly cant imagine anyone in this state who wasnt affiliated actually CHOOSING to be a Tech fan.

Weirdest one I've ever seen was a high school teacher of mine. He was a Tech fan cause his great great Uncle attended for one year. But as you said you don't really choose to be a Yellow Jacket.

I am a sidewalk fan but have probably been to more games than 95% of the people on this site.

Means jack.

I'd agree, simply because of population. It was asked as part of a statewide poll once and it found that roughly 25% of the state identified as Gator fans. 25% is more than the total population of an Alabama, South Carolina, Mississippi, etc. Then you have to factor in fans from outside the state.

Teams located in major population areas are going to naturally have a larger share of bandwagon fans.
