If your choices were down to the following fired coaches that won national championships, which one would you prefer? Feel free to add others if you can think of any.

Mack Brown, Les Miles, Larry Coker, Phil Fulmer

Or can I hire Gene Chizik?

Chizik would make more sense since he was at Texas and I think he was at SFA.

And AU considering AU and SMU are the two schools with the most NCAA probations.

Coog High has worse NCAA issues than SMU has had. Coog High got hit with 250 major violations, only reason they did not get shut down was because the NCAA screwed SMU in that deal.

SMU did nothing that the other 7 were not doing (Rice does not count). SMU just beat Texas and then embarrassed them another time in Austin. Funny thing is, they did not pay for those guys, it was the group starting with Dupard they paid for.

You need to read about the SWC. I promise you it is well worth it.

Like hire for right now?

I'd go Miles in a heartbeat. Coker shouldn't even be on the list, fulmer didn't do a whole hell of a lot after 2001 and mack despite being an incredible recruiter only had 1 title to show (on the back of one of the greatest players and performances in history) despite playing in a league not as competitive as what miles has done.

If you're talking in their prime, I might be inclined to go fulmer although I think much of his success was due to cutcliffe.

I watched the 30 for 30 and since I'm almost 41 I'm old enough to vaguely remember when SMU had no football program and I clearly recall how they sucked for over 2 decades until they hired June Jones and he started turning the program around.

But I'm sure stories of the old SWC would be a very interesting read. No doubt.

Was Butch Davis fired from a college team? UNC?

Still probably think Lester would be the best choice.
