Which excited fanbase of a bowl winning SEC team is about to fall flat?

We've had all sorts of threads about why your team is "back"...let's go the other direction. Which program ended the season on a high note but will disappoint in a big way next year?

I think the answer is Missouri - not because I think they will be terrible, but because they now expect to compete if not win the SEC East each year, and last year's Tigers had a record which masked some alarming performances. Only three losses is always a good season, but those three losses were two utter blowouts and a loss to Indiana. Also, most of expect a tougher group of teams in the East next year. UGA should not fall off by much, if at all. Florida and Tennessee will not be what they were in the 90's, but they will be improved over last year. And Spurrier should have the Gamecocks primed for one last run before he goes to play golf full time.

Strictly among the teams that won their bowl game last year, whom do you think will fail to live up to expectations?

I am not sure, but it could be Arkansas. They are getting a lot of national hype. And while it may be merited, that schedule is not what I would call favorable.

@ Tenn followed by @ Alabama is not something I would want to see on my team's schedule. Then @ Ole Miss, followed by @ LSU could be very bad as I sure both those teams want revenge.

Sorry, I was meant to be a professor and I got stuck in an IT career because it pays better.

Florida lost 8 NFL draft picks, has an unknown commodity at QB, a miserably bad OL, and a seemingly weaker DL. How will they be better than last year?

While I wouldn't call it falling flat... Arkansas. Next year we are probably a 7-8 win team, less if we get some key injuries, more if we pull off a few upsets on the road. A nice step forward in our rebuilding process most would say given how the program had bottomed out.

However, after detonating Texas in our bowl game and routing LSU and Ole Miss some people have started penciling us in as a dark horse candidate for the West this year. Unless next season is an epic bloodbath in the West Arkansas isn't quite there yet. Which won't stop some folks from declaring the season to be a let down if we only win 8 or so games.

Well, I wouldn't say "fall flat" if we don't win the East, but it would be a disappointment. I think "fall flat" would be only winning 8 games. 9-10 wins is probably the expectation at this point.

I have Mizzou finishing 10-2... which is probably dooming you guys to a losing record next season given my luck.

As others have said, I wouldn't call it truly "falling flat", but Arkansas is not going to go 9-3. I see them as 8-4 or 7-5 in the regular season. Some national outlets discussing them as a top 15 team seems hasty.

Similarly for Auburn, I don't see them as the favorite to win the SEC. They'll be better than last year, but I'd predict a 9-3 regular season as of today.

Mizzou.

I'd say SC, however they didn't end the year so well last year. I think it will stay the same, or possibly get worse.

Vols are still razor thin at QB, RB, DT and some other positions. Too many injuries and we could be in big trouble. Especially if Dobbs, Hurd or Kamara go down early in the year.

Tennessee, probably. I honestly had to look up who won bowl games. So many lost.

Because they sucked last year and fired their coach.

Damn, did you REALLY need me to post this?

Alab... oh wait... winning bowl team?

Mizzou is due for a stumble I think.

Obligatory "59-0" response.

The Vols lack of depth is a concern I agree. I think the team is improving and Butch has y'all on the right track but injuries are part of an SEC season and a few critical ones put the Vols in a serious hole going forward.

I've only heard people say we're going to win 7-9. Some people are saying as many as 10 with lucky breaks, but that was true even last year. We're likely going to start the season ranked about #23, which doesn't exactly smack of preseason hype. We could finish 8-5 and end ranked if we win our Bowl and keep our losses close.

Well it's a rebuilding year for us so we have no expectations other than an improved defense.

So not us.

Not sure, most pre season polls have Mizzou ranked below UGA, Tennessee and Arkansas so I think their fan bases are hyped more than Mizzou fans. This would also indicate a further fall if those teams don't live up to the hype.
