Outside of the obvious elite group (Saban, Meyer, Peterson), and at a level at or above what their school historically does and should expect.....

My list would probably be :

Art Briles - None
Les Miles - None
Mark Richt - Miami
Mike Gundy - Oklahoma State
Gary Patterson - TCU
David Shaw - Stanford
Pat Fitzgerald - Northwestern
Mark Dantonio - Michigan State
Dan Mullen - Mississippi State
Mike Leach - Washington State
Bobby Petrino - Louisville
Bill Snyder - Kansas State
Frank Solich - Ohio University
Craig Bohl - Wyoming
Jeff Monken - Army
Troy Calhoun - Air Force

Richt and Miles, though Georgia and LSU could make the argument that the expectations at those places, relative to the talent level of players in their states, is to expect more than 3 loss seasons (which is what Richt and Miles were doing their last 5 years each on average).

Definitely not Malzahn as it relates to developing QB's. He will develop the shite out of a fullback though.

Mullen does a great job with QBs and has historically surrounded himself with staff to develop defensive players (see Wright, Cox, Slay, McKinney, et al).

Mullen either really loves Starkville or is just a huge horses arse to still be at State. With all the bad football we see across the country it's incredible he hasn't been snatched up.

Credit to State for keeping him around.

That's true - but I'm not sure he'll ever coach again. But he certainly belongs on the list.

I kind of considered him in the "elite" group of coaches who were entrenched and never leaving their school (except for some ultimate job aka Dabo to Bama or something).

Saban
Meyer
Harbaugh
Swinney
Jimbo
Peterson
Stoops

Honestly, Bert should probably be on this list as well. He is a consistent 7-10 coach at schools that are solid traditionally, but don't reside in places filled with recruits and shouldn't be expected to win titles and produce tons of NFL draft picks each year.

That 4.2 million is more of the hiccup then some people realize.

The Navy coach, Ken Niumatalolo, has been pretty consistent, actually. I'd add him to the list.

The 2010 arkansas sugar bowl team was built around a recruiting class ranked 28th

Joe adams, Ryan mallett, Greg child's, c j gragg, jarius Wright, dennis Johnson and jehrico Nelson all are from that class
