UGA just announced they will no longer be staying 45 minute bus ride away from campus for home games. They will now stay on campus at the hotel.

We have also announced we will now be flying out of Athens for all away games instead of the 1.5-2 hr bus ride to Atlanta airport.
Delta will provide 2 Boeing 717s for away travel.

Where does your team stay the night before home games? How long is your bus ride to the airport for an away game?

Ole Miss stays in Tupelo before every home game. About an hours ride on a bus. 45 mins by car.

They typically fly out of Tupelo as well...occasionally they fly out through Memphis.

The baseball, basketball, etc. teams fly out of Oxford's airport via smaller planes. Oxford can't handle larger charter planes.

All away games or just out of region games? And I wonder why they weren't doing that sooner with Delta right there in Atlanta.

All away games except Tech and Clemson. I don't think Ben Epps had runways long enough to handle 717s. They just finish renovating the runway. We will spend a fraction of the time on buses this year than previous years with these changes.

They extended the runway years ago to be able to accommodate larger planes. Are they still not able to bring in big enough planes for the football team? I remember flying with the band/cheerleaders out of Oxford for some of the NCAA tournament games back before they extended it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they just expanded the airport in Athens to handle larger planes.

This is correct. Only games we should be riding on buses to now are Tech and the occasional instances we play at Clemson.

Auburn's team typically stays in Montgomery for home games, which is ~45 minutes away

I have always wondered this question for every SEC team?

I would assume LSU flys out of BTR.

Interesting. So they'll fly to Auburn and Columbia?

For Auburn, as far as I know, the team still stays in the 'Gump for home games at the Renaissance. It's an hour drive. I think we use Montgomery's airport as well.

Alabama stays at the Capstone Hotel for home games and I'm pretty sure they use Tuscaloosa's regional airport.

Not large enough for 150+ people like when the football team travels. Could be wrong...but I think they get 777's to charter the football team, staff, boosters, etc.

I don't think this has been confirmed yet, but would think we will fly anywhere that can land a 717 within reason.

Auburn is only 1.5 hours from ATL airport, no point in flying there before. Now we are a 15 min bus ride away from the airport.

Columbia definitely worth flying to.

I'm not sure if Auburn's airport can handle that plane. I'm not versed in aviation enough to speculate on that.

Interesting thread. Makes sense about Athens, though. I always assumed that airport was larger

Razorbacks fly out of Drake field right around the corner from them.

As for where they stay, they used to stay in Bentonville but im not sure anymore...

I think it still stands that the football team stays at Crowne Plaza downtown and they fly out of McGee-Tyson airport which is 20 minutes from campus.

It's actually pretty small. Just no reason before now to have more than your usual small plane strip in Athens when one of the biggest hubs in the world is an hour and a half down the road.

Seems like the perfect situation. Not far, still off campus and not a long bus ride to the airport.

Only thing that worries me about our players staying on campus, is the late night yahoos on campus and all the early morning noise on game days.
