Before Saban turned LSU around, they were basically Arkansas. But the in state talent was still there. I think TAMU was on a run in the 90s, did they recruit south LA?

Saban actually took over a good class his first year at LSU.

Davey, Ryan Clark, Josh Reed...

They still went to LSU, they just had god-awful coaches.

LSU started getting LA talent again in 1995. Kevin Faulk was probably the most important signee in LSU history. Prior to that, guys were going all over the place after Arnsparger left. A lot went to the Florida schools

Notre Dame and Michigan both hit the cookie jar. LSU has longstanding history with ND and a home and home would be lots of fun but that's a door best kept shut recruiting wise.

FSU, Michigan, ND, Texas, and some stayed home but had terrible coaches

Miami cherry-picked us big time. Also, ND, Tejas, Nebraska, n Colorado had their claws in deep here.

Thinking about who LSU missed out on from Louisiana is pretty sad.

Marshall Faulk
Reggie Wayne
Ed Reed
Warrick Dunn

And the list goes on... Not all of them would have necessarily chosen LSU, but if LSU was where they are now back then, you'd like our chances.

Florida State and Miami just to name a few.
Warrick Dunn
Travis Minor

Ed Reed
Reggie Wayne

Hell, Anthony Thomas went to Michigan and Kordell Stewart went to Colorado.

Gerry Dinardo wasn't the best coach, but he kinda convinced most of the talent to stay in Da Boot.
