Somehow I knew you would be that person. I don't think anyone here is saying that what happened almost 200yrs ago was good. Thousands upon more thousands of men died in that war, both white and black. For you people to still keep harping on it and trying to make people from the south feel guilty about it is total bullshite.

so we should change the name of our nation's capital, a state & every federal building named Washington - right?
Oh hell, we also need to start melting quarters & burning dollar bills

I mean, to be consistent - right?

Oh hell no, anything above the Mason Dixon line is exempt from any thing to do with that war. Those people up there didn't own slaves before and during that war. Just ask any white hater out there. They'll tell you it's all true and want money.

it was an extension of what I said in my 1st post ITT

but maybe I am overreacting

at a minimum, I should keep these types of comments on OT & PT

I am not trying to be a "slavery apologist" here...

1. I'm from the South with relatives who fought for the Confederacy.

2. The only reason the Confederacy was created was to keep slavery and thousands of people died and had their lives ruined to try to keep it.

3. Keeping statues and flags to glorify that cause IS "harping on it"

It's the Vet. Home to many great games in Jackson, like the Notre Dame win in 77. In fact, until the 90s Ole Miss and State would play double headers the same day against SEC foes. Can you imagine a 4 team tailgate during the regular season in a central location like Jackson? If you thought Jackson was dangerous now..

No, it's called HISTORY! We're all gonna be dead soon enough, so why do we have to give up our heritage to appease these lily liver assholes who want to wipe out our history. So tell me, all these places like New Orleans that are removing statues, what can we expect to be put in their place? Will it be something to continue the quest for better times and better relations of all peoples? What kinda replacement do you see?

Most of the plantation owners were actually northerners making money off of the south and southerners.
NONE of the men who fought for the Confederacy were plantation owners. Most were actually whites, (and even some blacks) who joined because they had to -to save their farms, businesses, families, livlihoods. NONE of THEM owned slaves or had anything to do with slavery, because it was a miniscule # of plantation owners (again, mostly northerners) who wanted slavery to continue.
This is why I cringe when I hear "all white people should feel guilt about slavery." REEEAALLYYY ?????? So, somehow, 250 million or so caucasians living today in this country are AAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL somehow ancestors of 750-1000 plantation owners - who were actually notherners and/or descendants of northerners ????? That is mathematically impossible.
The "confederacy" was actually planrtation owners who lobbied the southern state and municipal governments to support the southern states' rights.
The southerners who actually 'fought' were poor or lower income working men who HAD to fight under the guise of the 'confederacy'. They had nothing to gain. Lincoln himself wanted slavery to continue.
Robert E Lee was actually offered the Union Generalship, but Lincoln chose Grant. Lee sold his slaves in his Virginia family way before the war. Both he and Jefferon Davis were opposed to slavery continuing.

No it wasn't. Memorial Stadium had bleachers in the north end zone in 1962. Didn't do the north endzone bowl until probably late 70s. Yes - I was at the 1977 OM-ND game, the 69 OM-Tennessee game and 69 OM-LSU game as well as the 80 MSU-Alabama game. Just as a trivia, the Houston game right after that issue was played in Jackson when it was scheduled to be played in Oxford because of the Meridith thing.

Its glorification of a government that was established to keep slavery. Why not erect a statue of George Wallace or Bull Conner? Are they not historical figures?

I'm sure Mr Stop robot doesn't want to hear any of that and has probably tuned this thread out. Just like the hater's always do, they spew their shite and then leave.

so you call stopping racism political correctness?

a quick recap; many people were captured and forcefully removed from their homes and sent to a foreign country to be held captive and experience force labor and not have any rights as citizens (and often as humans). they were held in bondage for hundreds of years and were derided and hung if they were accused of a crime.

these people view things a little different from you. symbols of slavery and hatred are a bit more than "political correctness".

Good for you, I just knew you would run and hide. I'd be willing to bet there is a statue of George Wallace somewhere in the state of Alabama. Does that bother you? I hate mice but there are lots of statues of a mouse in Orlando Florida. I think those need to be removed and statues of Donald Duck put in their place.
