I first heard sbout him in 1999. Michigan State was really good that year and a number of their games were televised nationally. I remember Brent Musburger absolutely raving about Saban. He was praising him for the job he was doing at Michigan State and going on and on about Saban being a great coach. Yes, the announcers were kissing Saban's arse going all the way back to his Michigan State days.

This. That was back in 1995. I remember watching some Michigan State clips and enjoying his sideline tirades. He was always blowing a gasket, and looked like he would strangle someone before he ever had time to stick around long term.

I remember that game in 1995 well. One thing for sure, he has been very consistent with the way he approaches games and what he has to say. His hand gestures and mannerisms and vocal intonations in 1995 are exactly the same today.

I vaguely remember him at LSU, but really didn't know about him until he got to UA. I just never really thought about LSU during his time there, so I had to ask my friend who was an LSU fan that I convinced to go to UA what he thought about him.
