Whats the Point of the SEC Championship Tourny?

Just curious as to what is the goal of the SEC tournament? If everyone plays everyone during the regula seaon, and a regular season champion is determined, what is proved other than a team being on a hot streak?

If LSU goes 0-2 in this tourny they don't get a national seed. It's a resume builder basically.

Regular season conference champs don't get an automatic bid, they need an invitation - just like basketball.

now that we're going to 14 it's a moot point but i'd rather have skipped the SEC tournament and played a true round robin of 33 conference games
now yeah some people might not like 15 home and 18 away but that does reverse. it's disconcerting how we play every team but just one
