Didn't happen here, but last offseason I would tease a LSU fan friend of mine that we didn't care about LSU anymore, that we let Ole Miss take care of our lightweight now.

Early in the season some posters were claiming Dural >> Cooper.

I think on an individual level you have to go with Coker and "Trill". On a team level, I'm going with Auburn, UF, TAM, USCe, Vandy, LSU, and UT. Hell that is half of them, rank them in any order. You can add UK from the point they were 5-1 as well.

Auburn fans-- "It's Mississippi State and yall don't have the talent to keep up. We beat y'all every year and this year will be no different."
ATM fans-- "You wont be able to stop our offense with that shitty D. How bad did Manziel beat yall? It will be just that bad again this year."
Everyone in the SEC-- "Err its MSU. They don't recruit at a high enough level to compete for the West. They suck and Mullen can't win a big game. they'll go 7-5 with 8-4 being the ceiling. Have fun in the cellar, State."

Meh, none were really outlandish statements.
But State outshone everyone's expectations including those of their own fans.

Again, credit where it's due, y'all excelled way beyond anyone's expectations. But at the time, pre season, they weren't that outlandish.

Auburn back to back 10 win seasons wasn't outlandish pre season. Neither was Auburn in the title game again or that USCe would destroy ATM.
