I think in 2012, LSU finished near 100 in red zone defense (meaning people scored touchdowns when they got to the red zone).

He finished #51 in Red Zone defense in 2012.

He did finish #100 in Red Zone defense one year, though. Actually tied for #100 with, among others, Texas A&M.

What year was that? 2011.

Where are you viewing those stats? I can't find a good ranking for red zone stats in college.

I almost forgot when Chavis and his Tennessee Defense made Matt Mauk look like Dak Presscott against Chavis's LSU Defense.

I think he has similarity to Dungy in that his scheme relies on doing simple concepts quickly and effectively. Most teams can't execute against that type of defense consistently enough to beat you. The problem is, the scheme, for better or worse, is what it is. There isn't a lot of camouflage or exoticness to it. That's why you see let downs. What sport psychologists have determined is that under high stress situations, players revert to instinct. What that means in a scheme like Dungy's or Chavis' is that they won't do their assignment and try to do too much. That creates gaps in his system and those mistakes are fatal at the end of games.

I have read this about Dungy and it's fascinating. It's like shooing a free throw. In the gym it's all muscle memory. When the pressure is on the line, literally a different part of the brain takes over, one that is processing real time, and causes far more problems.

Like the fact that despite national rankings LSU only averages 8pts less per game over the last 2 years than Sumlin's fun and gun? 8 points per game? 1 score per game.....I thought Sumlin was some sort of GuRu?

Considering Aggy's OOC schedule consists of Rice, Odessa Permian High School, and the Little Giants, that's saying something.

With a Heisman QB Aggie was only 6pts per game better than LSU in SEC play in 2013. Rankings aside, Ôle Cheif wont have this massive Offensive cushion like we keep hearing repeatedly from the Ags

If he could ever figure out how to prevent the breakdown in high stress situations, he'd be unbeatable. His scheme is pretty cool and how he teaches it is even more fascinating.

Which is why they think that people like Kobe/Jordan, whose mentality is to prove the other guy wrong, and who are just angry and waiting to see the look on the other guy's face... That mindset coincidentally doesn't have the real time processing issue and muscle memory takes over. When they talk about "being clutch" they have found no statistical evidence that your performance is any better in the final moments. Three point percentages are the same. 98 mph fastballs are the same. 40 times are the same. Some guys don't let the moment overwhelm them and others do. That's what clutch really is.

Impossible… I was told aTm's offense was a fast-paced, well oiled machine that is lacking only a defense to secure victory.

He's already stated the defensive line he has in College Station is better than what he had in Baton Rouge. I'm glad you're confirming there will be an Aggie defensive group better than their swamp kitten counterparts. Our linebackers still suck though.

Y'all had 17 points that game. That's not capitalizing.

his predictability, esp in 3rd down situations and late in the game with everything on the line.

Scoring averages, 2012-2014:

LSU: 24.6 points per game

Texas A&M: 35.1 points per game.

I don't know about you, but a 40% advantage in scoring seems like a significant amount to me.

[edit: these are for conference games only]

Less than a TD is not a significant advantage.

Can we not use numbers when arguing with LSU fans? Even when you include their best offense in the past decade, their offenses are terrible.
