Went back and watched the 2011 Oregon/LSU game.

Reminded me how the kid had all the tools, he just lacked tremendously in confidence. . .and it was the difference between him being a great quarterback and a mediocre to awful QB.

I am sure every school has that guy. The guy that is amazing, he just lacks that little something in the head or heart that prevents him from being truly special.

Who was your school's Jarrett Lee?

I could say Brandon Allen felt that way to me until last year.

I think the concussions contributed to Lee's lack of something in the head.

Had all the tools? He just threw the ball in the general direction of the receivers who fortunately could make great plays. Very confused. Seemed like a great kid, though.

Quick release.

Accurate arm.

Great range on throws

Good velocity

But he would get shaken easily, and fall away from pressure on throws instead of moving his feet.

Jeff Driskel. Arguably the most talented QB in America for 2 of his 4 seasons- 4.5 speed, strong, tall, huge arm-- "developed" by Muschamp.

I would lack confidence too given the hack job Les did on this kid.

Guess the first year starting QB

qb1: 13 games played
52.7 completion %
1749 yards
7 TD
14 int
109 rating

Qb2:
11 games
53.2 completion %
1873 yards
14 TD
16 int
116.9 rating

Qb3 (added second year stats for larger sample)
11 games
61 completion %
1901 yards
11 TD
12 int
Approx 116 rating

1) Matthew Staffors
2) Jarrett Lee
3) Josh Dobbs

To this day it blows my mind how quickly Miles hitched his wagon to Jordan Jefferson after Lee had struggles his first year that are on par with a majority of first year starting QBs.

I can have lots of tools but it doesn't mean I know how to build a house.
Les (and all the over critical LSU fans) broke Lee. Very few kids could thrive under the pressure put on him. And honestly this is why LSU has had mediocre QB play over the last few years(Mett fell into our laps) . Les doesn't want to break another QB.

The Jarrett Lee saga reminds me of how Tony LaRussa torpedoed Rick Ankiel's pitching career. After that, Rick was never the same and TLR was always overly protective of his younger pitchers.

Les did not break the kid.

kid always had a confidence issue.

Even at the QB camps before he came to LSU, that was a common thread.

Lee just seemed scared to get hit to me. Everytime he'd drop back he'd throw it off his back foot. He always seemed so nervous.

His first pass of his career was a pick 6 against Auburn, but then comes back in the 2nd half and drops a bomb.
