Carolina got word yesterday that charges against the No. the 10 weakside defensive end in the country, Shameik Blackshear, has been dismissed after the an alleged victim refused to testify. He plans to enroll at Carolina towards the end of May.

For a while, it was nip and tuck between the Cocks and the Tide. I know Saban has been to Bluffton at least once. Bama has been scouting him since he was a sophomore.

But when he got hurt last year and then when he was accused of petit larceny--the charge that was dismissed--The Gumps just closed on the next guy on its list.

Think about it for a minute, except for the championships and the coaches over the last nearly 80 years, Bama is not that great. As I wrote once before, I have never seen academics and Bama in the same sentence.

But, oh, the pull of that football program. I think with the demise of Notre Dame, Bama stands alone. And, Gumps, I say that with respect and envy. And make no bones about it, all other SEC teams feel the same way, with the possible exception of Vanderbilt.

Glad I'm not the only one too.

The first three blurbs have absolutely nothing at all to do with the last two.

Alabama is actually an above average academic institution and one of the top 20 law schools in the United States, so yeah.

Think about it... if you actually believed we weren't great or significant, you would never have made this thread to begin with!

Alas, you made the thread. Therefore, you have done us the ultimate compliment as a fan of an opposing team/school. Paid us attention!

Our thanks!

I think what he's trying to say, and I could be 100% wrong, is that while South Carolina needed this guy and waited on things to clear up because they had no one else waiting in the wings, Saban and Alabama simply moved on to the next 4-star LB on their recruiting board.

Am I right?

It wouldn't surprise me if Tuscaloosa renamed itself to football.

Get what he meant and while true it ties back to the true factors that sets Sabans bama apart. Discipline of the players on the field, insane attention to detail in every facet of the sport and willingness to spend or allocate money where ever needed to give an edge to the program(not talking about buying players). Those 3 things are what makes the Saban program so special and a step above everyone else. Other factors as well but those 3 are the vital ones IMO. The guy is a hall of famer for a reason
