Wisconsin jumps from unranked to 10
Texas from unranked to 11
???????
Maybe if both teams pulled off another big win but not so early

MEh, there shouldn't be pre-rankings at all. But if they must exist winning big games should matter. Who did they jump that proved more week 1?

It's almost like the pollsters weren't taking last season into their mind set on this year's polls...

Who cares. It's meaningless. It will all work itself out

Pretty much.
It is interesting though. AP voters have dramatically changed the way they vote though. That kind of jump wouldn't have happened even a few years ago and it probably signals a changing of the guard from older baby boomer age reporters to gen x and gen y reporters.

They're looking at the team's performance and the strength of their opponent and ranking them based on numbers and facts and shite like that.

The polls are stupid until about week 8. They are overrating a bunch of shitty teams that will get spanked later on and drop out for good.
I mean, they even have Aggy ranked, which is...frickin....

The polls are bullshite. We do to have to worry about them anymore anyway.

UT wouldn't have beaten Wiscy or Texas in week 1 so what is your problem with them jumping in that far and you falling 8 places from 9 to 17 even though you won?

Get a fresh tampon and you'll feel better.
AP is the most reasonable poll I've seen.
Rewarded well if you win and punished if you shat the bed like the Vols did. Based on what was done on the field.

OP you should've known better. Everyone is addressing this as though your motive is about UT. That said, I don't think any of us are sad about falling.

I agree that it's interesting and I agree that it's a dramatic shift in voting tendency, but your reasoning is all wrong. These are still the same old print dinosaurs - this isn't about demographic shifts over just a three-year period.
It's the CFP, stupid. They are now evaluating the T25 as the CFP Committee wildly shifts depending on each week's results.

They want to fix the rankings because they were way off.
They are going to fix these rankings by basing them off results of rankings that were way off
If Tennessee can be "worse" than expected maybe Notre Dame and Texas could both be as well. Maybe app state is a lot better than expected and would have beat Texas.
Nobody knows anything after one week, it's a crapshoot until we have a bigger sample size.
I think the jumps were a little drastic for week one. I agree with where we are though, but I don't see how Wisconsin squeaking out a win against a "decent team" in Wisconsin makes them top 10.
I'll take it though because right now we have a two point loss against a top 10 team, and we are losing our minds.
I'm ready for a change, but I think it would be hilarious if Wisconsin has a great season and ends up with a top 3 defense again.

Oh no, I'm not saying that the old print dinosaurs have been usurped by online or other types of media so much that I think there's a shift from older reporters who've retired but who were more conservative in their voting to a younger reporting pool that's a bit less conservative and more likely to feel comfortable making more dramatic changes. There's no doubt that a lot fewer older reporters are around while more younger ones start to chip into the once boomer held majority.
That said, I think you're onto something with regard to the CFP having an influence. I just think there's a generational tendency at play as well.

Tennessee would be lucky to finish the season ranked 17
You guys think you are a top tier program but the last 20 years have told us otherwise.
Be glad you are even ranked
