For example, how long can a team claim to be an "elite program" if they fail to win anything significant since their last conference or national championship?

What is the "Elite Status" statute of limitations?

So if a team wins a college football championship 100 years ago and they haven't won anything significant since then they are still an elite football program?

You know better than that, Cock.

Some programs just "have it".

Others don't.

Arkansas is still elite from 1964 and our little bump in the Petrino years.

Before this gets flamed to hell, it was just a joke.

I was simply speaking on the fact that UT and GA fans are still living off there glory season from 98 and 80-81.

That's why I said I wasn't aware just saying....

Eh, I think 1964 is too long ago to claim elite status. From what I've heard elite status only lasts 10 - 15 nonproductive years before it is lost to history.

ETA: wink

We've won 3 SEC titles since the years you posted. We've won the east 5 times, have 3 BCS bowl appearances, about 10 top 10 finishes, etc. Not one single UGA fan thinks we're elite. If your dumbass wants to think we are fine, but we don't claim that. What we are is an extremely solid program that will be in the mix more often than not. We've also accomplished more this decade than SC has in their entire football existence, so I'm not sure why you even care.

I think UT can barely get away with it because 98 doesn't seem that long ago.

However, GA cannot reach back to 1980 - 1981. Too much time has passed.

I mean look at a program like ND who hasn't won a NC since '88. Most would still consider them an elite program. I think it's a mixture of history and viability. Someone like Oregon, who's been extremely good the past several years but hasn't won a NC some may not deem to be elite. I thinks it's all pretty subjective but I think it really boils down to # of NCs.

Calm down, brotha. No one is singling out Georgia. Sure, the dawgs are no longer an elite program and that's okay...

Can you define elite for the purposes of this thread?

I partly agree. I think it certainly boils down to the time since your last NC too...
