Sweet 16? Final Four? Will he actually make Bama basketball a true contender?

The ceiling is a national championship.

No, but we've had Final Four caliber teams.

Never made a Final Four and one Elite 8 appearance,......have been to Sweet 16 multiple times although it's been awhile....

Need a couple of recruiting classes but I fully expect to get to the dance on the reg. and make some deep runs....we will see....

Tournament runs often include luck. So a ceiling isn't the best way to discuss this. I think a better way to think about more in terms of year in year out performance. For me I hope he builds good teams and makes the NCAA most years. With a little bit of luck a final four isn't outside of the realm of possibilities. CBB sucks in comparison to the past. The NBA players don't stay long enough to mature to make really awesome teams. So I think it's not as amazing as it used to be to make a final 4. Butler made 2 finals in a row. Butler.

You know that the tournament wasn't always seeded right? We were ranked #7 going into the 1976 season. Unfortunately, we had to play the #1 team, the Undefeated Indiana team, in the sweet 16. We even led with 2 minutes left until a block/charge call went against us. Bob Knight said we were the best team they played that year. If it was in today's format, we easily could have made the final four.

At the time, Knight actually said we were the best team ANY of his team's had played.

Alabama has pretty good tradition in basketball. Whereas MSU wasn't relevant basically ever until the 90s. And it's not exactly like they have been good every year since then. We are way better at b ball than MSU has been at football historically.

The cool thing is having been to the top of the NBA he won't be as anxious to change jobs for a better one. He may be content to create a basketball dynasty at Alabama. Then we'll have 2.

Bama will never be UK or Duke in basketball. If he stayed long enough I could see a final four down the road, but not a consistent type thing. I would be happy with making the tournament 3 out of every 4 years with a sweet sixteen mixed in ever two or three times.

Why can't we build an elite basketball program? We have the money and we have the will.....We have CAJ? We don't have the basketball pedigree as the teams you mentioned but we do have the brand.
