What Is A Catamount? No Googling Please.

After bama loses to Miss State and before they lose to Auburn, they play the powerhouse Western Carolina Catamounts.

What is a Catamount?

It's a mountain lion.

Eta: the school mascot was almost the Western Boomer.

False, it's a cougar or puma. Very frisky and dangerous.

what? Why does this animal have so many alias'? Puma, Cougar, mountain lion, Catamount? does it depend on geography what they're called?

It's a generic cat in the mountains.

Basically any type of wildcat or mountain cat, lynx, mountain lion etc.

I don't know. All we got is some black panthers. My meemaw almost got killed by one.
