Yeah, they just recognize the others

Yeah, like the NCAA. But ehat does the organization that runs the whole sport know?
It would be a little trashy for a school to overnight claim championships from 50+ years ago, I mean who would something that trashy?
Oh.... wait...

Atcheson said that in the 1983 media guide, he added the five pre-Bryant national titles now listed -- 1925, 1926, 1930, 1934 and 1941. Taylor Watson, curator at the Bryant Museum in Tuscaloosa, said it was actually the 1986 media guide.
This much is certain: The 1982 media guide, the last for Bryant, lists 1934 as the only pre-Bryant national championship, adding it in a footnote of Alabama's SEC history. In the year-by-year results in the '82 media guide, only Bryant's six national titles were listed.
Does that day "Six National Championships" at the top there? ... and that's from 1983?
How strange

They probably printed that up in the summer time, so the Iron Bowl and vs Boston College apparently in an NFL stadium (@Foxboro) were probably just the only ones already under contract
I'm sure networks probably waited until closer til the actual game to decide what games would take certain slots
That seems logical, but I wasn't alive then so that's just a guess.

As opposed to now when most MAC games are nationally televised

Really 2013 too since the only thing standing between Winston and 30 years in prison for rape was a mass cover up by the Tallahassee PD

True. But back then cable television was less than 5 years old. Pretty sure ESPN was still airing shite like tug of war contests, so idk if they even had the rights to air good stuff like college sports yet.
Now a days there are more channels dedicated specifically just to college sports than most people probably had total channels available to them.
And if there's still not enough room on tv for a game, you can damn sure stream it online now.

If memory serves, the Penn State and Tennessee games were also televised that season. In addition to the Iron Bowl, AU's games versus Texas, Florida and UGa were on TV, but not other potentially marquee matchups like FSU, Tennessee or Maryland (despite that game featuring top 10 teams head-to-head).
ESPN was in existence, but didn't have broadcast rights to major college football. And the Jefferson-Pilot early Saturday games didn't start until the following season.

The number of threads started and pages generated about Auburn on the rant should help give you an answer. Hell, we had a fricking women's softball thread go 10+pages a couple of months ago.

Auburn has as many SEC Championships as Bert does SEC wins.
Posted on 6/23/17 at 6:58 am to Lacour
alright let's do this
Auburn has won a national title more recently than LSU
Auburn has been to an additional national title game, more recently than LSU
Auburn has won the SEC Championship more recently than LSU
Auburn has taken 2/3 from LSU in the last few matchups between the teams
Oh, and Auburn has more than one national title even by the most conservative of metrics, so your thread is a total failure.

The last time any SEC team besides Auburn and Alabama to win a NC was Florida in 2008.

We have a bit of a persecution complex, though not as strong as LSU's.

Seems to me that the auburn posters are the most arrogant on this site outside of Bama fans. But Bama has a go-zillion championships. So they got a right.
Auburn has one in football and none in anything else. They are one bought player away from being ole miss.

Lol. It's been years since I've heard that one. This might've been a good name back in 06. You were about 6 years late on that one.

This is like saying on 3/2/62, Al Attles and Wilt Chamberlain combined to score 117 points in a game

Which player never even made it off the bench for a single minute?
Because that's Mississippi State.
