What happens in this scenario?

Scenario: Auburn (or LSU) runs the table, narrowly beating bama, and wins the SEC championship game. Auburn (or LSU) is a 2 loss SEC champion (one conference loss, one OOC loss), but bama is a one loss, higher ranked, non-champion.

Who does the playoff committee select?
What would the reaction be?

1. Probably bama
2. Epic melts and mass bannings.

It would depend on who wins the other conferences.

In a scenario in which two of the following occur, Auburn goes to the playoff:

Washington State wins the PAC 12
Oklahoma wins the Big 12
North Carolina wins the ACC
Wisconsin wins the Big Ten

The answer is always Bama.

No idea. That's why I'm asking.

Personally, I think only conference champions should qualify for the the playoffs.

That rule applies for everyone, minus bama.

Bama with one loss to either is still likely the west champ due to tie breaker rules

The committee would select a two-loss conference champion over a one-loss non-champion, especially if the former beat the latter head-to-head.

Even Bama.

the SEC Champion or both, both depending on how the other conferences fare the rest of the season

If the committee picks a non-div, non-conf champ Bama to go to the playoff over a div and conf champ team that BEAT Bama, bad things will happen. If it happens to LSU, Coach O will be pulling off his shirt and looking for committee members... =)

in this scenario, there would be only two teams with one loss if i'm reading the OP correctly. the tie breaker would only be h2h

If LSU runs the table except for bama, and AU runs the table up until the Iron Bowl, then the Iron bowl would be for the West.

Why? If Alabama has a harder SOS and better record then they are the most deserving

because I doubt the committee would vote Alabama in if they don't win the SEC unless the SEC gets two teams in. That would depend on Washington in the Pac12 and the shitshow that is the Big12

The playoff committee has said many times that they favor a conference champion unless there is overwhelming evidence that the other team is better.

If Bama loses to LSU or Auburn, that would wipe out any overwhelming evidence.

A much more interesting scenario would be a two-loss Tennessee team winning the SEC title with a one-loss Bama team sitting at home.

If AU wins the conference, AU goes.

Why?

One of the main points the playoff committee has been harping on since its inception is the idea of conference championships meaning a lot.

As for AU going in particular, the resume for AU will be very good. Even with 2-losses, the committee would likely send AU anyway unless a case with a bunch of undefeated teams/1-loss teams win the various P5 conferences. That would throw a monkey wrench in things. Similar idea for LSU.
