I don't understand all the negatives takes on Butch Jones.
It's clear that they've been stockpiling talent. They's played tough without a signature win, but they're getting there.
Have to feel better about UT right now than UGA, UF, SC, etc.

I agree with you. Tennessee is gonna be hell in a couple of years. That's why I started this thread, know my enemy.

You could possibly make an argument for the other two but including UGA on that list is absolutely ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure his philosophy has been to follow around Brian Kelly and use his development into a larger pay day.
Congrats Tennessee.

Great post son, UT is a lot of smoke and mirrors, Butch looks in the mirror each morning and has a pow wow with himself to see what offence they will run he council himself every day 1 hour talking and answering himself, He tapes it and the OC and Berth discuss the offence, Love pops

Come back when you actually know what you are talking about.
Kelly left the cupboard bare at Cincinnati when he left. Butch won there with freshmen and Jucos mostly.

It's no coincidence that Butch historically has run an offensive system much like Brian Kelly.
If you follow CFB enough you'll see, his philosophy is built on a lot of the same principals as what Notre Dame has been doing.
That is to say, it starts with a downhill run game. But unlike guys like Harbaugh, Miles, and Saban, Butch fans the field to get men out of the box to create numbers advantages. Unlike Oregon or Auburn, who rely on the option to get numbers shifted to one side of the field with the ball heading the other way, the QB/HB exchange is usually predetermined in Jones' system and used more as a play fake to buy the QB some time.
As far as the passing goes, he's less "spread" than he is West Coast. Coming from Central Mich. and Cincinnati, the keys to his success was usually a QB who could throw sideline to sideline and the occasional deep ball between the hashes (as opposed to someone like Cam Cameron, who's system requires a QB to push the ball down field and outside the hashes, as his run oriented offenses will generally keep the safeties moving north and south to cover the deep ball or to support the run).
This is changing with Dobbs at QB though. His arm isn't A+ but it's easily a B+ arm that can make a good bit of "NFL throws". What you'll probably see more of this year is play-action. Because he's got the best QB he's ever had, the importance shifts away from simply getting the ball to a skill position guy in the open field and have him make a play shifts to freezing the defenders for a split second so Dobbs can put the ball on his man in stride down the field.
The key to the offense this year lies not in Dobbs necessarily--he'll be good regardless of the system or philosophy--but in UT finding a work horse running back that will force the defense to drop the safeties down, and will freeze the other DBS and LBers to set up a PA pass.
I was listening to an interview on Clay Travis' show over in Nashville when they had Butch on talking about this. He said he doesn't want to stick to a philosophy or scheme too much, as all players, teams, and conferences are different--running the same scheme he did at Central Mich. would get him run out of town.
He said that because of the level of competition in The SEC, and the caliber of players, he's molded his offenses to encompass more of an NFL feel, while using spread concepts to accomplish what are generally applicable regardless of scheme--create match-ups, get numbers to one side, etc.
I think Travis made some snark about the scheme being like an illegitimate child of Air Croyelle and Bo Schembechler. Butch said what's he's been running lately is called his 7-6 scheme.

I owe you an apology too. I'm sorry for being a bitch to you. I hate your program but I have no reason to talk to you like I did. Now, can you explain a bit about the defense? Thanks.

It is hard to know exactly what CBJ wants to do, seeing as how we've been limited by depth and talent issues on offense over the past couple of seasons.
How long do y'all get to play that card? Serious question.

Dobbs can't make a good bit of NFL throws. He can run and make some short passes but the guy throws ducks when he tries to make NFL throws. I think he's a good college QB and one of the better QBs in the conference, but his ability to make "a good bit of NFL throws" is laughable.

No it isn't. You're trolling. But, I'll answer anyway.
That card cannot be played after this season. He really can't play it this season, but when you're talking about true freshmen being day 1 starters, your depth isn't where it needs to be.

Didn't you guys play more true freshman than any other team in the country?
