I heard him on the radio going over every team in the SEC and I didn't learn a single thing from Mr. College Football. But, this is his job.

I have actually thought for years that his analysis is generally weak and uninformative, but he comes off like he is an authority through his demeanor so people listen to him. He loves to talk about Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and Alabama and even when talking about them, he doesn't really say much of anything.

Why is this guy considered THE expert on the SEC apart from his writing for the AJC for years? What makes him more knowledgeable than anyone else?

I just haven't been a fan of his at all.

If you go to an SEC football game, you'll probably bump into a dozen people in your section who are better writers and more insightful than the "professionals." shite, most of the amateur content on SN websites is better than what you'll find in print, and that's done by dudes who have day jobs.

So the answer to your question is nothing really, other than a journalism degree

Exactly, most of the die hards are going to be more informed than many of the analysts. Just the way it is.

I agree. For example, his take on Alabama was, they are talented everywhere but they lost a lot on offense and we have no idea who their QB will be, but I think they will win the West.

His take on LSU? They are really, really talented at every position on the field but none of it matters until we know that their QB is going to be pretty good. So, don't expect anything from them at all.

Now, I get that he is going off of what he saw last year and I don't even disagree with him about LSU's QB situation and the fact that things will probably work out for Alabama. But, that analysis was so surface level and just based off of the result from last year that I was embarassed for him. Guys like Greg McElroy actually give you analysis that is thoughtful and provides insights that I had not considered.

His take on A&M, South Carolina, and Florida were equally surface level. He spent the majority of his time talking about Tennessee and Georgia.

His problem is that he is asked to talk about the whole SEC and I don't think that he is really interested in the knowing what is going on with the whole SEC. He is interested in about 4 teams and those are the ones that he can speak about, but he still doesn't tell you more than your already know. I think that people listen to him to have their biases confirmed.

This seems like spot-on analysis just going by historical trends.

he knows how to convince the decision makers that he knows more than you or I and that he should be paid for it ...

He needs a better colorist. Half the time he looks like a clown.

I didn't say it wasn't spot on going on historic trends. I get that. But, you and I can do that kind of analysis and it is often wrong. Why does he get paid large sums of money to do this full time and give us superficial analysis that is often proved wrong?

Anything can happen from year to year. All that we know is that he watched the same amount of football last year as the average SEC Ranter and he has opinions.

I think that's we as fans want to consume information more and more every day. Those who visit and frequent this particular site are generally more informed than your average football fan or guy flipping through the channels. I don't think that we are Barnhardt's target audience. Most on this site would get more out of someone like Bill Simmons if he did college football rather than NBA.

Why don't you just apply for the job you goof? Then you can say nice things about LSU and get paid for it. Those cramps must really suck

He didn't even mention Arkansas at all.

Stop acting like an idiot. I don't care if he says nice things about LSU or not. His whole schtick is from the common knowledge that anyone can get from barely paying attention last year and then he just brings it forward to the next year and is listened to because he is an expert.

We believe that the Alabama QB situation is fine because it worked out last year with different players? It might be, but that makes no real sense.

Take LSU out of it. Whatever. It is just constantly shallow analysis.

He doesn't bring anything some fans on here can't bring and in some cases some here can do better.

I feel Tim Brando brings even less to a discussion on football. He is just loud and has a platform to push his opinions.

I think he got a reputation as an expert because he is among the longest tenured reporters that actually covers teams on a regional or national basis. The Alabama media and most media don't really cover teams outside their own state. I do agree that his opinions rarely offer any more insight than a lot of fans already know
