What do you think of Randy Shannon? Would you like him becoming a defensive coordinator or position coach at your school?

He'll be Gruden's DC at Arkansas next season.

He wants H.C. Money to be a D.C. I don't think much of him.

I was excited when his name popped up as a possibility for our DC job. I like Van Gorder a lot better though.

Solid defensive mind asking for too much money to be a DC.

He's a average DC IMO. He was rumored to be our replacement for Justin Wilcox this past offseason and I wouldnt have been very happy had we hired him. Thankfully we hired Sunseri

Why do you say that? When he was a DC for Miami, 5 out of the 6 years, his defense was ranked in the top 10. Do you think he just had great players?

Maybe I'm underestimating him saying he's average. I just felt I wouldve rather had an SEC guy to coach our defense.

But to answer your question yes he had excellent players there's no doubt but I do think he still had to be a pretty good coach to do what they did

ETA: to sort of clarify, without the caliber of players he had at Miami I think his defense would rank 7-10 in the SEC

Maybe, TCU had a LB coach recently resign and Shannon is rumored to be a leading candidate. TCU has an older defensive coordinator so the path to becoming a DC in a couple of years might be there at TCU.

He would be a nice catch for TCU. More than just a solid coach.

Would be a top notch get for TCU. Good defensive mind and a class guy. Type of guy that program needs to help keep those kids on the right track. Good recruiter in spells and with certain kids.

To the Rky fan in the 2nd post, keep dreaming big.

He's lying scUM of the earth:

quote:

Q: I think its all because of the history…
A: But what history? My best friend Walter Odom got killed at the University of Florida, shot, when I was at school at the University of Miami.
----------------------------------------------------

According to Miami Herald archives, Odom was never shot or killed at the University of Florida. He was, however, stabbed at a party in Gainesville in 1989. It was two years after he was done playing as a Gator. Odom, a standout at American High who befriended Shannon in Northwest Miami, later died in 2002 from a long illness at age 36.

Just an hour ago, I asked UM Sports Information director Mark Pray if I could speak with Shannon. He said "Coach Shannon realizes he misspoke," and declined an interview request.

He'll be a hell of a DC for us when we hire Butch.

That is a crazy story. It makes me feel like I am missing part of the story as that is a pretty bold lie to tell.

Out of curiosity though, how well did he recruit in the State of Florida against UF? Was he the main recruiter for the Hurricanes or did they have another go to guy during the Coker years and his time as head coach?

Good recruiter but not great. UM always gets good SFL athletes. He's a documented liar though. He really did say that. Sad really. Would not want.
