When scholarship restrictions were implemented. Before then it was a caste system not a sport.

So as an Arkansas fan the modern era starts some time in the future?

Well that's an easy one to pinpoint. Anyone who disagrees is an idiot.

1917-1919, 1927, 1939, 1955-1957, 1974-1978, 1985-1998, 2010, 2012-now

Modern era of college football is recognized as post-World War II.

A lot has changed during those decades. More games on TV's. Changes in scholarship numbers. Changes in offensive schemes.

Best teams in the history of college football are found in 1995 and 2001.

So, no, football that took place last year is not the best thing the planet has ever seen.

no selectivity there at all huh! (well done)

I say since 1960 or 1970... I prefer 60 since it gives Mizzou a legit NC winner but I can live w/ 70 too...

I love how the LSU fan gets 2 up votes for saying since 2000 but I get 2 downvotes for saying the same fricking thing

1992: First year of the bowl coalition which began having an actual #1 v. #2 national title game. Also the beginning of conference championship games. 1992 is when college football started becoming a truly major national sport.
